how do i setup a salmon rig?

Well, i was thinking today about going to nisqually river and trying for a salmon but then i realised i dont know the first thing about them haha

Searched online and couldnt find any real helpful info so im wondering if yall can tell me the basics, what lb line i use and what and how to rig it all up lol.

and this is for bank fishing not a boat.

You might try pegging a couple of tiny green or red corkies to a 1/0 hook and tie on some red yarn. go with 4-6' of leader add 3/4 inch of hollowcore lead crimped to the main line or to the swivel with a piece of rubber hose. You can put the rubber hose on a piece of pencil lead and then put the swivel clamp end thru the hose. There are several ways to add a pencil led to your line. You can just crimp it directly to the line. You might try 12-15lb and depending what type of reel you use... soft or hard lay. You will want a line that is abrasion resistant.

There are lot's of ways to catch fish in the river....# 4 vibrax green or red or brass. Small wiggglewarts in Met Red flame red Siver Black Bart, Dick night 50/50,. When you get to where you want to fish then see what everyone is using. Good luck to you and bring a camera. If you have to get a fish, stop by QFC on the way home! Try 12# test mainline, add a sliding swivel on the mainline.Crimped lead is attached to the sliding swivel. You won't need more than 4' of leader, any more and it's too hard to cast. Try a 1/0 octopus hook. It doesn't matter color of corky or yarn as long as it's orange or red. Well cured eggs seem to be the ticket. In softer water rig up a bobber with eggs.
Most tackle stores will be more than happy to show to show you the proper riggin' such as Sportsmans Wherehouse or Sunbirds, but you'll probably spend more than you anticipated.

Awsome, i tried the basic corky and yarn setup with the lead weight, corky and yarn in the nisqually up a little from the damn on the ft.lewis side. but no luck. :( going to have to take the crowded exit 116 on i5 and go by the bridge i guess.

Those might work Fishingfool. The problem is on the puyallup there is a non-bouyant lure restriction (no trebles on a sinking lure) and you need a barbless hook.
A cheap way to get started in river fishing is buy a few corkies, some yarn and some pencil lead.

well i will u this now it all depends on the river .is it flowin real quick is it shallow there all kinds of things to keep in mind when you salmon fish so get back to me with the water conditions and i will let u know how to set up.
