I've caught them from shore in June - biggest was 17 inches. At Beacon Rock boat launch. but, since I am boatless, I am probably not much help, since the ones I caught, I was fishing for smallies, and better to get them in a boat.

OK...... I am going to bring my boat down from Lake Merwin to Portland for the winter & I would like some info about fishing the river for Walleye.
I have an 18ft. Hewes Sportman with a 75hp Yamah & 8 hp kicker but Ive never fished for Walleye or fished in the river for that matter.

Anyone out there willing to teach an old timer the tricks? I would like to follow someone in their boat or have someone ride along with me.
I have several rods, reels but will have to pick up some "STUFF" for the walleyes.
Where ever I go........There I am!

Septembver 10 was a good time to be out around the Washougal Reef. Walleye tend to do best from August to the End of October on the lower Columbia.

1. Be aware of the tide in the area you want to target. Go when the tide is about to turn out. It is a45 minute Golden Hour.
2. Areas around Kalama where the ambush tactics of Walleye can work are good start spots.
3. Worm harnesses with High contrast spinner baits and smiles blades with either a Lindy rig or bottom bouncer are the rig choices preferred by those having success.
4. Washougal Reef is prime
5. At the tips of Lady Island, as long as the PWC and Skiers aren't around.
6. Remember this ain't Salmon fishing, it is slow, find the fish first, and then get maybe 45 minutes of hot action "Fishing" and it is usually (but not always) a next to the bottom fish approach.

That said get in touch with the Lower Columbia Walleye Club that would be www.lowercolumbiawalleyeclub.com . Enjoy learning how to get one of Americas finest fish to your table.
