bass boat perfomance

Post by NITROMAN » Thu Jan 17, 2008 9:34 pm

I have some questions about bass bouts and propellers and their pitch. I have a friend that has 18 foot ragin cajun with a 175 merc . His boat will run about 45 to 50 mph the prop pitch is a 21. Question. can he get more speed with a diffrent prop pitch. My boat is a 17 foot nitro with a 125 merc and my boat runs about 55 60 mph it has a prop with a 24 pitch. Is this the right prop for either boat.

I am new into the boating world but I have been referencing a Forum called Bass Boat Central. They have a prop forum and the moderator does repair/blueprinting and repitching along with great advice. There is some great reads on the forum. There are many things that can be done to a prop such as drilling exhaust holes for added slip and adding/removing cup from the blades. It might be the height of the motor, maybe the motor isn't running 100%, wrong prop for the application. I'm sure you get the picture. I think that there might be a guy or two on WL.com who has had Mark do some work for them. I might be mistaken but I think that ChrisB had him do a prop (saw it on another forum). Maybe you can PM him for a reference. The pictures of his work are amazing and he gets nothing on the site but great reviews.

Assuming everything else is running properly yes he can. His boat should run mid 60s

2000Subi is right. Definetly check out Bass Boat Central and ask your question there. The Cajun with the 175, daniel is right it should be mid/low 60's. I'm no expert but he should be running your size prop, 23 or 24 pitch. Your boat seems to be running just fine with the 125 horse.
