Here's one way might support a small run of steelhead:

Remember when you went to the fair and won a goldfish, it was given to you in a plastic bag and if you (and it)were lucky you had a little buddy to watch swim around for a couple months....

How about when you buy your fishing license WDFW hands you a bag of steelhead fry....say about ten per license? There are about 650,000 licenses sold per year...voila!...a potential of 6 million fish!

Can't you see it now, "Honey, we won't be using the hot tub for a couple months, gotta project going".... A good use for the live well of the boat that won't be used til summer.... At the time of release, if you really got creative, you could rfid them with your name, then when someone catches "yours" they could contact you and thank you.

The Game department is struggling with how to make their hatcheries be more like native habitat....this could diversify the gene pool a bit......
