What % per species?

Post by mallard83 » Mon Aug 06, 2007 7:11 pm

This post stems from my last post on the topic of "pound for pound the greatest fighting fish". I was just wondering from the rest of you, how much do you fish for different species? I ask this because this site seems to have more bass fanatics than anything else. Please be honest with your answers because I was just wondering what the most popular species on this site is.

My % :

Trout 25%
Bass 15%
Panfish 10%
Steelhead 20%
Salmon 25%
Sturgeon 5%

Is there anything else besides bass. I thought those other fish where just food for the bass. My bad. :clown:

Bass- 90%
Trout- 5%
Salmon- 2%
Panfish- 2%
Catfish- 1%

Is that a 100%?
O.K. that should do it.

This is a great topic, but a very tough question. For me it changes from year to year. And the species I fish for the most isnt my favorite species to fish for #-o , its just convenient. But I will answer as accurate as possible. These numbers will be based on this year.

Trout - 40%
Salmon - 20%
Panfish - 15%
Bass - 10%
Walleye - 10%
Fish - 5%

My favorite fish to fish for would have to be walleye. But being from the west side, I can barley afford to drive to central WA, let alone tow a boat and pay for gas for that. Pan fish come in 2nd, then trout. Trout fishing is great but you can only catch/eat so many. Salmon on the other hand are great to catch and eat, but the only reason why they are so high on my list is, its convenient, ( I live about a mile from the sound and the green). Bass are fun. But like I said, from year to year it always changes for me. But walleye and panfish will always be 1 and 2

Fish for or catch? I have been trying to panfish.. but whoa do I suck. Thankfully bass love to bite my lines on most days (never big ones like your guys photos hah).

Bass 70%
Panfish: 30%

I'd like to fish for other things but I'm new to this so I'm taking it slow. :)

I've got to agree with gpc on this one, for me it's the time of year for what species I'll go after. Jan. and Feb. I'll deffenitly be on the ice ice fishing for panfish and kokanne with possibly a run to the clearwater steelheading. Mar. thru May I'll be walleye, bass, and panfish for sure. June and July BASSIN. Aug. it's Huckleberrys and firewood (WHAT NO FISH). Sept and Oct. steelhead Nov. Deer hunting and Dec. Trout fishing in any open water then back to ice fishing.
30% Bass
20% panfish
15% walleye
15% steelhead
10% trout
10% channel cats
I've gotta try the cats at least 2 or 3 times in a year 8-[

60% Trout
20% Kokes
10% Salmon
10% Spiney Rays

This being only my second year fishing, I havn't really looked into any other types of fishing. I want to try it all, but I seem to always end up
going back to trollin for trout. Soon as I figure out panfish, those will probably be pretty high on that list.

This is great! I am learning more about the people on this site by what kind of fish and how much they target them. And this is just a general percentage, so it means throughout the whole year what species do you TARGET most, not what you catch the most of, because sometimes you may not be successful at fishing a particular species that you want to be catching. I just want to know what species you guys are trying to catch. Keep them coming.

Boys you needa experience a real fish pulling out some drag. Bass fight for a minute, get a big King or Silver on your line and your working for 10 or 15 minutes or LONGER....

Salmon: 40%
Trout: 40%
Bass: 10%
Saltwater Bottomfish: 10%

That's this year for me. I haven't fished at all for any other warmwater species other then bass this year.....
