New Pond...What to bring?

Looking to pack light, and walk in to a little lake near my house that has a decent supply of Largemouth. I am looking to pack a pole and a few select baits, but what would you suggest to be the most productive. Should I pack some jigs? Spinnerbait? crank? I can cast to maybe a depth of 6-10 feet, though not sure how deep the lake really is. Plenty of down branches and trash abound the shore. I usually stick to plastics, senko's and such. How about a tube on a leadhead this time of year??? The lake is stained, 3-4 feet visibility from my shore perception. I just want to be able to tell the wife I'm going to Home Depot and I'll be back in an hour, and instead, go fishing. Help me pack a panic box!

I admit I'm not very good when it comes to "selectively" packing, but if I had a gun to my head and was only allowed 4-5 baits and was targeting largemouth on a brand new body of water matching your description, here is what I'd use.

1) 3/8 oz Black Blue Rattling Jig with Matching Black/Blue Trailer
2) White/Chartreuse 3/8 - 1/2 oz Spinnerbait
3) Rattle Trap / LV500 - Red/Orange or Chrome/SexyShad
4) 5" Green Pumpkin Senko
5) 6" PowerWorm Tequila Sunrise or RedShad with 1/4 oz Bullet Weight.

Pretty Basic stuff, but if you are fishing from shore, you should be able to fish any cover you encounter pretty effectively with these setups. those are my go-to's for early spring largies, I'm sure plenty of other people will chime in with their favorites!

such a box is a necessity for the spur of the moment fishing, my personal "travel box" always has at least a few senkos, I like the greens and purples, always have a spinnerbait , a blue and black jig n pig (though the pig isn't totally needed) I always carry a popper as well...but this time of year that might not be the best, unless worked super slow...I also carry like 3 lead heads and a few choice tubes and grubs...I don't usually pack very many crankbaits for pond fishing but the ones I do are shallow divers like a 4 inch rapalla...additionally, if the bass aren't biting, i will switch up my rig to a micro jig for crappie or perch... one super secret is to drop shot for multiple species by slow fishing a jig or tube on bottom with a micro jig 2-3 feet up tipped with some worm or a maggot...its sneaky...

Catching a Musky is on my bucketlist, and I have never fished Lake Tapps for Musky or Bass! We could do a combined outing. :bounce:

I am not a bass fisherman but I think if I found a small private pond with bass I would use soft plastics and senko's rigged up weedless or jig and pigs (weedless)......Nothing with treble hooks that sink too far until I know what the bottom is like. I would bring a pen and tablet with a camera to keep a record of what I caught and with what lure and every time I hung up I would make a note. I think I would get there in the early am and fish some top water lures. Bring a few bags of soft plastics in the pumpkin and dark green colors to start then each time you go bring something something new to try....Good luck to you, I am sure that you will find something that works. don't forget to bring a few bobbers, mini jigs and stuff for perch...If there is bass then there is probably perch. I would try to bring at least 2 rods, one for plastics (5"senko, 1/4oz texas rigged 5" curley tail grub, pig and jig) and a rod for a spinnerbait or crankbait. If I had 3, I would tie up a top water. More rods = less screwing around

Cast net then you will know what kind of fish are there. Just kidding lol.. Half stick will give quicker results. PLASTICS!! Fishing from shore can be costly on your tackle.
