Post by Dustin07 » Fri Jan 15, 2010 12:53 pm

hey dez and everyone else, thanks for all the links on schedules. There are a lot of tourneys out there this year and I have a couple guys that I know will be able to partner up with me. Looking forward to seeing you on the water!

question... Where can i get a weigh bag and contest strap?

... and what is a contest strap?

Weigh bags are usually at the tournys for that tourny's use. But you CAN buy them some places online.

The bigger tournys should have the 'contest' engine banner for sale. Mine might be too old and so fragile. Haven't had it unrolled and out of the locker since about '94. I'll have to check it soon.

Auburn Sports and Marine
3 Rivers

those are just the first two that come to mind. The contest banner (green side out) goes on your outboardto signal to other boaters and tourney folk that you are in a tournament. You can also turn turn the banner over to signal any sort of malfunction (Orange side out). Usually for big motor problems, or running out of gas. Hopefully a fellow tourney boat will come to your aid and help you out.

I've never heard of the requirement of the angler supplying their own. Time change I guess.

I may not make the Feb 20th tourney as the tach on the boat is reading way too high for the speed the speedo and GPS were both reading. 6,200 at 50 mph instead of 5,800 at 70. Something is wrong. Am waiting for the mechanic to call me back. Won't be able to afford to fix it untill I get my tax return in early March.

yea... boats aint cheap. I need to replace a trailer light and fix the livewell pump on the Lund before I can get it out. hoping to do that next week or the week after. It's hard to get my priorities straight during duck season. I'm thinking about upgrading to LED tails on the Boat, that's about $150 at Auburn Marine, but maybe then I'll remember to unplug the trailer electrical before i dunk it.

Had my boat out Mon. Seems the tach in reading way too high, so now I have to figure that out. Didn't find anything loose when I looked yesterday. Gonna look again today. Probably just start taking connections apart until I find something, it starts working properly, or wait until March when I get my tax refund and have the mechanic find it. The mechanic says the tach comes from the ecu, I have no meters to check that. So much for the tourney Feb. 20th.

how did you guys do at the first tourney?? I had to do some major tune up work on the boat, and now I've blown two seals on the water cooling unit so I'm shooting water into the hull like a hose... long story short, I didn't make it out, but the 5.0L and the kicker are running like tops now!

The tach is working just fine. I took apart all the connectors on the engine and wiggled all the wires/connectors under the console. Whatever it was it seems to be 'fixed'. Just need a 26 pitch Fury prop to test now.

I caught about an 8 lb King Salmon. I thought I had the mother-lode smallie on, but it wasn't to be! :( Then Dez had to go and net the thing, so it slimed me, my boat, and my net before I could release it back into the water! Thanks DEZ! :)

I have a 26 pitch Trophy 4 blade on it now. I want to try a 3 blade Fury.

I used a 24 pitch Fury on the 150 Mariner I had on the boat before I bought the 175 Optimax.

edit: Not Fury, Lazor II props. Brain fart, sorry.

If you gained 25 hp, I don't think a 2 pitch jump would be a good idea, but maybe you know more than me. What kind of gps speeds are you running with the 175 Opti ? Bad ass motor by the way !

I've had a 24 pitch Fury II for sale for a couple months now, has about 10 year use. I also have two 22 pitch Fury IIs, 1 has never been on the motor, and one has less than an hour on it. It was the spare I kept in the boat.

Edit: Not Fury, these are Lazor II props. Sorry, I have Fury on the brain lately. I want to try a Fury 26 and 27 pitch props.
