crab cage?

Post by samman253 » Wed Nov 04, 2009 3:43 pm

so i was crabbing at watermans dock at port orchard yesterday. i brought with me a cage and a ring pot. then a guy on the dock was telling me that i couldn't use my cage on the dock. so i read the wdfw phamplet and it doesn't say anything about it. its the square cage with the holes on each side. still caught a bunch of 7'red rocks and a few dungenes but most of dungies were soft shell with the ring pot. so is it illegal to use cages on docks?

It should be fine. I talked to the WDFW a few months ago and they said as long as the gear is in line with what it says in the regs it should be fine. i think the rule of not using crab pots might have been an old rule, not sure about that though.

I think the guy was confusing the Ocean regs for crab with the Puget Sound regs. On the coast crabbing is open year round with one important note, you can only use crab pots from Dec 1 to Sep 15.
