Another website about Bass fishing in the NW has been born. I local man who prides himself on cranking has started his own site all about them. I have not personally gone thru many of the articles, but, what I have read has been quite informative. Check it out!

Thanks for the link !! I fish cranks allot throughout the year so this link should be helpful .. Iv had some great days with the crank stick , The most important tip that i can provide with cranking on washington or sammamish is the pay close attention to the gear ratio of your reels. Iv found that the standard 6:1 is a little to overwhelming at times , the 5:1 or slower with a fast retrieve is the way to go IMO ! :batman:

Yup, slower is usually the best way to go. For me anyway. John is a real good guy, and I've only met him once.

Thanks Dez and Amx for the tips. And Subaru for the link. Seems I may be burning my cranks and will need to relook at gear and presentations. Tells one of the voices in my head to store this away for the next time on the water.

Oh ya. A SPINNING and a CRANKING 5.1 gear ratio isn't really the same. What a person needs to consider is the RATE of line pick up. The spinning reel will pick up more line than the cranking reel due to the size/diameter of the pickup bail and SPOOL SIZE. Take 1 of each reel to the lake, throw the same crankbait, reel at the same speed of hand rotation of the handle, watch the difference of LURE retrieve and how it works under water and the depth.

100% Correct. The two terms I have seen referring to that at IPT (Inches per turn, in which the turn is one revolution of the reel's handle) or Line Recovery Rate.

100% about the differences between spinning and casting reels.

A 2500 Shimano Symetre sports a 6.2: gear ratio but it recovers 35" of line. A Curado E has a 7.0:1 ratio but recovers only 30" of line.

So which one is the real burner? :bom:

I used to go to silver lake alot atleast 2 or 3 times a month. John fishes the resorts dock pretty much daily, so I have had many mornings fishing and talking to John. He taught me pretty much everything I know about fishing cranks and fishing silver in general.

Yes the founder of that site is Chuck "the Rev" Bailey. He is the one who showed me the rev rig. Like all good fisherman, I have my own little tweeks to the rig. It is an awesome tool to cover alot of deep water. The Rev has been fishing Lk Wa for 20 yrs or so now. He is a wealth of knowledge when it come to Washington.
