I believe that is a Cottus cognatus, also known as the slimy sculpin.

Nope that is not a sculpin the tail is wrong and so are the fins. Looks almost like a smallie Large mouth cross. Hmm maybe the washington fisheries dept is up to something. Wouldn't be the first time they messed things up.tagwatson360 wrote:I believe that is a Cottus cognatus, also known as the slimy sculpin.

RE:Not your everyday smallie!!!!!!
For the record, I was just kidding around about the sculpin thing. Interestingly enough, while extremely rare, there are smallmouth/largemouth hybrids in some fisheries. Here is a picture of a "smargemouth" <--- my made up term, don't know what they are actually called. A spotted bass/smallmouth hybrid is called a "meanmouth".Sounguru wrote:Nope that is not a sculpin the tail is wrong and so are the fins. Looks almost like a smallie Large mouth cross. Dez, I know what you are thinking and the answer is "yes". Dragging is a great way to catch a smargemouth.
