Humpy Hollow - Friday
While you'n's are working on Friday morning I'll be out chasing the wily humpy in the zenboat.
Think Pink

RE:Humpy Hollow - Friday
Nice! I may join you but only after giving chase to some kings and silvers in area 10.
RE:Humpy Hollow - Friday
Good luck out there Bill. I look forward to your report. You to G. I think I'm gonna drive over to the west side of Whidbey and do some casting from shore.
RE:Humpy Hollow - Friday
Thinking about heading up there Friday as well. Fishing out of a 12fter so I am watching the weather to see if it is going to cooperate. Still waiting on my first Salmon for the year, so hopefully I can get some pink action.

I had some friends fishing the west side of Possession yesterday and they were marking stuff in shallow, 60 feet or so. 1 pink caught, 1 downrigger bent, 2 obstructions somewhat snagged and released.
They said they were marking a bunch of "fish" but weren't sure if they were pinks or what.

Deep, shallow, up top, down low - Couldn't keep em away, even 100 feet down on standard king gear....zen leecher aka Bill W wrote:that's where they were marking fish. hmmmA9 wrote:Scatchet Head = Lots of Pinks.....
People don't realize that these fish all pass these areas on the West side of Whidbey before they hit Humpy Hollow....

Pink Salmon are so plentiful, their presence is seen near the surface. The fish will jump and roll, indicating their presence. Wherever the action is on top of the water head there, after that pick your poison. Squid Bombs, Buzzbombs, Spoons, even stripping a fly will get you fish. Easiest way to fish for pinks. No trolling neccesary. Oh, and if your targeting pink specifically, take the light gear and challenge yourself.HammerinHonkers wrote:what speed do you guys troll for pinks, fast, slow?

Good luck tomorrow. I was going but my fishing partner backed out and I don't feel like making the drive to go by myself. Always safer with someone else in the boat, plus its nice to have someone to run the net if I ever get to use it this year!

I'd like to try that. You let out a sinking line and strip back then? What type of streamer - large pink I'm guessing? This could be a lot of fun drifting along the hollow. Two years ago we did some spin gear with buzz bombs. Caught fish, but not as productive as trolling (what is?).fishnislife wrote:Pink Salmon are so plentiful, their presence is seen near the surface. Try twitching jigs at rising fish. Will sometimes outfish buzzbombs 2:1. I suppose you could drop 60 feet and work every 5 feet back up to the boat as if you were mooching and working the column...

RE:Humpy Hollow - Friday
The most effective technique for me in the past has been to cast a 1/4 oz humpy special spoon out past the scool, if possible. Then let it fall on a fairly tight line down through the scool. Just give a very slight jerk every couple seconds. Sometimes you'll get a fish or at least a strike on every cast. Jigs work really well also as long as they're not too heavy. I find that the slower the fall the better. I'm fishing from a boat so theres no need for long cast, if you're fishing from shore that might be a different story depending on how far out the school is. Good luck.

The zen boat will be out again tomorrow over at Scatchet Head. I've heard theres some pink netting going on out in areas 8-2 and 9 but from what I've heard the nets haven't been put out over on the west side of Possession Point.
