Silver Lake, Castle Rock
Im down here at the Silver Lake Resort looking out at the sun comming up on the lake.
Any of you got some good advice what to use on this lake for the Bass? The water is much dirtier than Im used to and much shallower. Im concerned I dont have the right gear for these conditions.
Help...
Thanks

Rich,
Just got back from Silver. You are right the water is very dark with little to no visibility. Seems to be just the way I like it when fishing. Two lures that were a big success were spinner bait and baby brish hog. OVer the weekend I ended up with 9 and BassDood who was down with us came away with about 20. The largest we were seeing we about 2.5. From the resort if you head to the right. First pad mini pad field you find is a rocky point coming off of the shore that is where we hooked into the first fish. A little past that is some (3 or so) little piling with little group of pads. That is where I hooked into 2 at 1.5 ... they were my first ever spinner bait fish. The one in the pic is one that I got in some pilings in a little cove right before the massive pad field. It splits into a little channel to the right. At the mouth of that spllit is where Jerry and I did very well. We were using white or white/chartruese for colors. My baby brish hog that I caught the most was Rootbeer. PM me and I can try to give you a little more details. I am sure that BassDood will chime in. He was talking to a local that gave him a tip on crankbaits that were a success.

'course they don't have biscuits and gravy ... but if they did, I bet everyone would eat there.
RE:Silver Lake, Castle Rock
Most top waters, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jigs and worms in the pads, dirtybirds most anywhere.

flippinfool is dead on. John was the guy I talked with and gave me a lot of info as well as 2 crankbaits. Hell of a nice guy. The cranks were small and shallow diving. One was firetiger and the other I dunno what pattern...kind of perch looking. Fish em slow around ANY rocky areas you can find. The spinnerbait was great too. I was told to check Timber Point as well. It's across from the resort. Jay and I caught all of our fish to the right of the resort like he mentioned. Good luck, Rich and enjoy!flippinfool wrote:rich you wanna talk to JOHN SEWELL he fishes that lake everyday . you ca nt miss him hes 6'6 with white hair and a white beard drives a older stratos . hes about the nicest guy youll ever meet ! tell him phil and kathrine sent ya! if you cant find him just tell chuck the owner aand he will send john your way! chart shallow runnin cranks , green pumpkin brushhogs t riged black and blue jig and craws and the 3 inch black blue lam senkos. let me know how it went!!!!!!!111:compress:RaMcVey wrote:Im down here at the Silver Lake Resort looking out at the sun comming up on the lake.

SWEET!!!
Tons of killer info. I just got done slaying the dinks at the dock. (and one slayed back...)
If im reading the finder right, the bottom is a thick layer of soft sediment, havnt noticed any rocky places but I know where you talking about.
After a couple cups of coffee and some food, Im headed back out the put the tips to good use.

Flipper is right,..John is the MAN out there and hella cool like Jerry said,..he also put BF and I on the Bass and gave us some shallow diving cranks 2,..Ram you definately gotta get a hold of John,..hit the Island 2 the left of the launch with your shallow diving cranks,..just before the Island rounds 2 the left there is allot of rocks,..Bass hold around 6'-8',..then you'll be set!

RE:Silver Lake, Castle Rock
How about a 'fish-in' on Silver and hire John as a guide for the group. I have no idea what that might cost each person, but shouldn't be too much.

Sure enough, just after my last post, I went back down to see Ellens 20th dink and John pulled up. Talked for a spell and he also gave me a used crank with a square bill, pointed at some good locations to use it. Had his son/grandson with him who stated they had caught 30+ that morning and it was only 10:30 when we talked.
Unfortunatley I didnt have WaLakes.com business card.. bad WaLakes ambasador...
Seems he has helped out quite a few people, thinking about purchasing a WaLakes tee and pressing a nice heat transfer of a LM and sending it down here to him as a thanks. Really nice guy.
Reports to come..

RE:Silver Lake, Castle Rock
John, came back after a few hours and jigged dinks with us at the dock for a couple hours... then we discussed the "8 pound log" for a bit... guess where Im headed tomorrow.
His son caught an 8 and a 17 pound carp from the grassy area adjacent from the office.
Then, we encountered a guy with a basket full of undersized crappies. Misselley mentioned the size limit to him and he checked with the office and let them all go. Cool we thought, then the guy started making nasty remarks about Misselley being the local game warden.. loudly.. when John Jr caught the 17 pounder. "Make sure you check with the local warden to see if its legal" Makes ya think it would just be easier to report them and let a judge educate them.
Was a great day, but the dinks just aint report worthy... even if she did catch WAY over 50 of the lil buggers.
Lots of little tight lines
