Cman man thats a good rod for flipn , But i wouldnt suggest it for frogn , me personaly i would switch it out for carolina riggin instead .. but dont get me wrong here you can use to toss kermit around , i just see a small disadvantage on your part if you get a blow up in the middle of the pads with this rod , it may break while your pulling on a 5-7# toad through that mess , assuming your using 50-65 lb braid # ...Iv had enuff frustration myself due to not being properly set up "the corrrect way" .. It's tuff Cman , but your gonna have to do what i did and get a "frog rod" and high powered reel with the 65# braid and let it serve for one purpose only " HAWG QUEST " !! After a few 5# fish on that stick , trust me you will forget about cost factor really quick !!
BBD
P.S I did come across a st coix MoJo Frog n slop rod stick brand new for like $90.00 >>>not a bad price and its good rod !

RE:FLIPPIN STICK
The "St-Croix-Mojo-Bass-7'9-Heavy" is a great "multi-purpose-rod",..I have used it for kermit but mostly for SB's up to 5oz,..rated up to 4oz but I can't tell the difference,..relatively inexspensive and good backbone for Bassin-in-da-Soup!

RE:FLIPPIN STICK
It will get the job done BB , The only down fall is that this stick will put allot of strain on your wrist after 4-6 hours of tossing those lil kermits around .. But one the SB side of things "perfect" and J&P also ..BassinBomber wrote:The "St-Croix-Mojo-Bass-7'9-Heavy" is a great "multi-purpose-rod",..I use it for kermit as well as SB's up to 5oz,..rated up to 4oz but I can't tell the difference,..relatively inexspensive and good backbone for Bassin-in-da-Soup!

RE:FLIPPIN STICK
Definately right on that,..because of this I use this rod for my SB'S and usually throw my Kermits on my Shimano Clarus,..I have thrown Kermits on my Mojo but prefer SB'S,..for Froggin I like a Med-Hvy action with some backbone,..right on Dez!Bigbass Dez wrote:It will get the job done BB , The only down fall is that this stick will put allot of strain on your wrist after 4-6 hours of tossing those lil kermits around .. RE:FLIPPIN STICK
I use my steelhead/samon rod for flipin and froggin lol . I know its not the optimal choice , but at 8'6" MH it does just fine for flippin and froggin. I use 20 pound fire line instead of braid cuz I believe its a better choice. I have landed tons of big fish on this setup. 20#+ kings 12# silvers and steelies 8#LMB's and I have never had a problem. That fireline will cut threw most anything. Lillies dont stand a chance. I've had huge bass on and after I land him half the lillies are cut down , even when they wrap around a hole grip of lillies at once , it just slices threw them like butter. I've never had my fireline break. I've use heavy braided line before and I liked the fireline better due to its ability to cut threw weeds and it has lower visability. The heavier the pole and the heavier the line the more you can horse them out of cover , but I'm sure you'll do just fine with a 7' mh rod for both flippin and froggin and whatever line you chose.

C-man if you can afford it get 2 rods. I used to try to frog with my flippin stick and it isn't that awesome. Depending on the flippin stick, mine is a pool cue. To me flippin is short line hand ot hand type stuff. I like a heavy rod for froggin but not as heavy as a flippin stick would be. The worst thing you could do IMHO would be to get something in between the two and then you are in no man's land and have a rod that isn't that great for either.

RE:FLIPPIN STICK
BMC,..I also have a Daiwa Heartland Salmon/Steelhead Hvy 7'6,..I have thrown Kermits-SB's up 2 4 oz and Flipped heavy cover with this rod and I also use 50lb Power-Pro,..Cman I agree with DC,..if I were you I'd buy just a Frog-Stick,..I like 2 change up allot so I buy the rods that I can do that with,..nice thing about the Frog-Sticks is that allot of them are pool cues and can be used 2 chuck SB'S 2,..wich I know you enjoy doing!BucketMouthCatcher wrote:I use my steelhead/samon rod for flipin and froggin lol . RE:FLIPPIN STICK
The smooth handling superline. Advanced technology FireLine Original Fused line is now 20 percent stronger than before. This thermal filament casts more easily, ties better knots, and stays more hassle-free than conventional braids. Along with exceptional strength, FireLine delivers ultimate sensitivity for instant feel, and the ultrathin diameter provides low visibility and incredible lure action.
yeah its a TYPE of braid , but its not the same as most braids. Most braided lines feel like rope and hog tie weeds instead of cutting threw them. especially the heavy # test braids. I use the 20# test and I've had large fish straiten out a 4/0 gammy hook , but never had my line break.
Dont get me wrong. If I had the money to throw down I would buy a rod for each style of fishing. I just think if your limited money wise and have to pick one or the other. Get one that will do both , you wont suffer much if at all. I only use my 8'6" penn because its what I allready have and dont have the money to throw down on more rods. Just saying its worked for me for froggin and flippin and it has served me well.

I agree as well BMC,..not all of us can afford a GLoomis for each application,..HaHa,..maybe one day,..or 1-rod-at-a-time!BucketMouthCatcher wrote:The smooth handling superline. Ya, it takes time to be able to afford, and buy, all the different rods a fisherman may want. Some rods I have I don't use anymore. Some I want to get and try. Oh well. :-) lol
And sometimes a tip will break off and that changes the 'handling' of the rod, then I don't use it. Sometimes a rod will break from years of use. My spinnerbait rod broke a couple years ago and I'd like another as the one I'm using now isn't really to my liking. The UglyStik I cast with at the BBQ felt real good.

RE:FLIPPIN STICK
Thanks Amx ... that was my UglyStik. Once I get the line twist out it should do alot better ... lol. It was the rod that I had gotten when I started this bass fishing adventure last year. It was cost effective and has served me well so far. I am looking to replacing it though I think with a St. Croix Mojo Bass ... just haven't settled on which model yet.
'course they don't have biscuits and gravy ... but if they did, I bet everyone would eat there.
RE:FLIPPIN STICK
Ya, there was a couple/3 loops in the line around the spool. I had to be sure they were removed, then the line had wrapped around the small blade also. Then the tie to the lure was off to the side a little. Each of these items by themselves can throw off a cast, let alone all 3. I had to check out the tip as it's more limber than my rod, but my rod is too stiff in the tip, which is why I want to get another spinnerbait rod someday. But because of the more limber tip I cast a little too softly, but that's life. LOL
I've got 5 casting rods & reels I don't use anymore and should sell. :-)
