RE:Huge cruising bass
If they're cruising they're not eating. Besides the fact that if you can see them, they can see you. So there pretty much fat and happy hanging out on the couch. Take note of the area and structure. Look for ambush points or deeper cover that they can use to feed from. You'll want to find an area within or near that area that they are cruising and that will be there dinner table. Techniques like a beefy jig or swimbait will get you bit if your in the right spot when the chew is on. Remember too, right now bass are stuffing themselves with all the fry in the water. So a Panic Minnow or smaller swimbait may be the ticket. Go early and look for activity on the water. Lots of times you can find the large schools of fry being pushed up and bass flashing in and out of them taking'em by the mouthful. Buzzbaits and frog will get you a monster this time of year tossing them real early and very late. If you can hear the frogs croaking, that be the time to chuck'em. Other than that, if you feel the bite is going to turn on and you want that particular fish, back off for awile (say15-30min) and make long casts to that area.

There is tons of fry in there I spotted a 3.8 feeding on them and got him on a power worm first cast. but those hogs....nothing, I almost got the biggest one to hit at night on a power worm. there is no frogs or bulls in there at all. it's funny I've been fishing around these lakes since may and I got an 8.2 on sb, buddy got his 8.3 on power worm, I lost 8+ on power worm and lost another 9+ on jig with no trail. and had one hit and miss sb over 8lbs, but these last guys were all over 9 and poss mid 10's, at night the one that almost hit my worm was cruising right by shore and I noticed the BG laying on the bank very docile they almost looked dead and I know that pig prey's on those. I dont know what I will do but i've got some good advice I will try. I may go live bait if all fails but I dont really want to do that, if I had caught 100 8lbers in my time I wouldnt go there but some of us here have not been that lucky or skilled

It's all about timing and conditions for the big ones. They're big for a reason. Big bass are different creatures. My suggestions is to go out next time when the conditions area right, right before a rain, you're definetely on the right track trying for them at night on these sunny days. The only other suggestion is to hit them hard during the fall and summer.

hmm, what color worms have you used? if theres no frogs, are there any lizards in that area?

Yep, or my crankbait. :bounce:fishingmachine wrote:Maybe a drop shot and just keep twitching it in front of there noses to get them to hit and also bumping a drop shot weight of there body gets them a little pissy to when you drag the bait in front of them again the nail it.
All you have to do is step up in line. While 6# line for regular drop shotting could work, I'd want that added abrasion protection from a heavier line.
I think that you might have a better chance with a pissing off technique to draw a reaction strike vs. getting them to eat something.

RE:Huge cruising bass
LOL, actually you might not be that far off. How about a soft plastic suspending jerk bait, like the Sluggo? It cast better, has better color options, and can work if they are working over the schools of bait fish................ Banjo minnows do work, but not like they claim.howardi211 wrote:you could use the banjo minnow! haha. i got suckered into buying these a few years back...the informertials looked so good. lol.

But, consider the other information given above. If you saw them, they saw you. If they are not feeding, they are just relaxing and you need to be there when they are feeding. Big swim baits can do wonders on these fish, but again, when they are on the feed and when they don't see you first.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.
RE:Huge cruising bass
i was over at Larson Lake in bellevue and had somethign similar happen. Saw a big hog of a LMB cruising along the shoreline and I tossed a buzz bait in to try to get a reaction out of it but it showed absolutely no interest in it.
i personally like the bobber and worms idea It's still fun to catch a big one no matter what method you use to catch it.

Where did we get bobber:-" Just a big ol crawler with a hook and the tail inflated with air so the tail floats right up in their face!!! I also like the bump and rub idea that is how I got most of my bedding bass to bite:cheers:

You know Trent ... If we carpool it will cut down on expenses. 250 miles at 90 miles per hour is under 3 hours ... LOL!!!lemagoat wrote:It's a very long ways from you! about 250 miles!Trent Hale wrote:I can show ya how? But I need to be there to show you.

RE:Huge cruising bass
Thanks to everyone for your advice, I will try alot of them, as for all the people who want me to just take them? if I did that that place would no longer be the way it is, besides my buddy showed it to me, I dont think he would appreciate me bringing car loads of guys down there to fish! It's like if you saw this great looking woman you wanted to go talk to and told your friends how much you wanted to ask her out and they all went "watch this" and took off with her...that aint cool is it? I may take a guy down with me soon who know's because all my so called fishin' buddies dont seem to wanna fish anymore, I've been out like twice in the last 6 weeks(that's why no posts for those who enjoy them) anyway want to thank those who gave good advice I will use it and hope I can land one of those pigs...if anyone has anymore suggestions please share if you would like, if not go out and get some HOGS! we need some more postings, been kinda slow lately.

RE:Huge cruising bass
OK here is something that might work?
berkley crawler
I have said this before but I want to add to it: I like the idea of going smaller for these fish that are not feeding and just cruising I find that if they are not hungry a smaller edible irritant is better they know they can't metabolize another meal after a feeding but something small and EASY is hard to pass up.
