Huge cruising bass
Hey everyone, I need some advice or help here, I'm fishing some waters where I am seeing LM cruising by me that are 8-10+ lbs and I cannot seem to get them to hit anything. they are well fed in these waters, planter trout, crawfish, minnows, I tried to fish at night the other night and had 1 about 10.5 come at my lure but backed off at last second. I noticed BG laying next to shore very docile at night and I think that bass was cruising shore to eat them. I seen 3 bass monday all over 9lbs I think closer to 10.8! I'm not joking on this I've caught an 8.2 in this area this year and lost 2 others well over 8. my buddy also got one 8.3, they are all over this area. in one day we seen over 15 bass swimming shore and all over 6lbs and would not hit anything morning noon or night! any suggestions? help?

I am sorry to say that I don't have an immediate answer on what to do,, but if you can mention where the lake is I think that a few of us could be there within the hour and we could all work on this together. (-:

im with Quadfather on this. You let us know where it is and we'll put in some group effort and toss all kinds of lures and bait and see if we can some of those. :cyclopsan

RE:Huge cruising bass
I hate to say this Lem but night crawlers maybe your best bet... Or down sizing your lures for more stealth. I fished a private pond as a kid and had the same problem. So what I did was post up in an area where they are cruising and I was not casting a shadow on the water and waited with a night crawler already in the water and as I saw them getting closer I moved the night crawler in their path. I put a little air in the tail to get it up off the bottom and the worm did all the work twitching and curling:cheers:

I am in ... have float tube will travel ... LOL. I am sure one of the hundred that show up should be able to get one of the cruisers to bite. Seriously, I am looking forward to some of the answers that do surface though.
'course they don't have biscuits and gravy ... but if they did, I bet everyone would eat there.

I'm with Taz, NC bud. You know I caught that toad on a NC last year. She ignored everything I tossed her way, put on a NC, she came over immediately and took it..I know it isn't a sexy technique fishing for bass, but I find using NC to work well when other baits aren't working.
If I have time this weekend, I'll try it there . Wish me luck!! :bounce:

I know Taz I had the idea of using a live crawfish, dont know if it legel or not but tried to put in craw pot in same lake and got only 3 bullheads and one catfish! I know they would prob take the NC. In the daytime I threw a SB and they came to it but didnt hit then at night I tried the power worm and it almost hit it, if it was a NC i'm sure it would have taken it.

Don't give into the temptation of live bait. It may be easier but wouldn't you end up feeling a little dirty. Little kids armed with snoopy poles accidentaly catch big fish with live bait.
I persoanally don't like the idea of downsizing either. These fish are probably not feeding very often and when they do they are going to want something substantial. One of them will eventually eat.

hit the things with a jig in the tail or side to piss them off and they should swing around
If it looks fishy, Then fish it, If it dont look fishy, fish it anyways. <')}}}}><

many of the giants that are caught in the small municipal ponds in California are caught on swimbaits that were deadsticked in front of the bass. i read one where the guy literally sat with his swimbait still with the bass looking at it for almost 45 minutes before he finally caught it. just a thought; those big swimbaits dont always have to be moving when you fish them.
I'm with DC. you dont want to have someone ask what you caught that 10 lber on and you have to say "a worm and a bobber".

RE:Huge cruising bass

Ya me too I always try every thing else first but it doesn't make me any less of a man to use bait.... Another thing to try would be a big copper or silver Blue fox spinner they make all kinds of racket and if pestered enough I am sure you can get a reaction strike!!!

RE:Huge cruising bass
I think this is a persoanl decision and I didn't intend to push my personal opinion on anyone else. We all have the right to do it the way we want to but some of us have chosen to do things a certain way and once you make that decision the result is only rewarding if you accomplished it on your own terms.fishaholictaz wrote:Go to Florida and 75% of big bass are caught on live bait under a balloon Fishing is fishing and catching is catching I am not on any pro tour so I don't care how I get them to bite:dwarf:
I have been hunting a giant whitetail for 3 consecutive seasons. I could have killed him several times with a gun but I hunt with a bow and I will either kill him with a sharp stick or not at all. I am good with that. I have passed on a couple other bucks that would have scored as well as this particular buck but I made up my mind I was going to get that buck. That's what gets me up in the morning. It may not be that way for somone else and that's fine. I think the guy that started this thread wants to catch one of these fish on his terms and I can appreciate that.

RE:Huge cruising bass
Maybe a drop shot and just keep twitching it in front of there noses to get them to hit and also bumping a drop shot weight of there body gets them a little pissy to when you drag the bait in front of them again the nail it.
RE:Huge cruising bass
Ya, just bump their nose. They'll grab it sooner or later. I chased a bass thru the reeds on Banks Lake one tourney and finaly caught it. My backseater was telling all the other guys how I did that. Was a 3 pounder too.
Tom.
