A Lil Help?

Post by racfish » Fri Jul 10, 2009 8:18 am

I have my brother in law in from back east. He wants to fish with me tomorrow. Were gonna hit our back yard .Seward to Mercer Island and around.Yarrow Bay,and the likes. What could I use as a all around safe lure? Cranks? Swims,?Spinnerbaits? or is it a combo of all?I dont think he'll be up real early so it will be hot and sunny by the time I hit the water.I assume on hot summer days that they will be deeper? Thanks Gents..
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Im taking the boat out. This is like the good Bro in law. I just want him to be able to hook up.Other then my kinda hookup which is the dock, canopy,or limb of the tree. My other bro in law I'd only take bank fishing.

Ralph,..safe bet would be 2 throw your Cranks-Spinners-Swims near the docks,..they'll be tucked under looking 2 keep cool. JMHO!

When I bring someone along who doesn't fish a lot, dropshot with worm will get plenty of action from the perch to good size bass.

Hope it's not too late but another vote for the drop shot. It is very effective, ideal for beginners, and practically idiot proof in that you just about don't have to set the hook. Good luck!

Had a great time out on the water today.I caught 2 small Bass, and 3 trout. All released back unharmed.I got one on a plastic weed free worm.(an old Chubby and Tubby .79 cents. The other was off of a Mercer Island dock using a Crank I think. It was like a flat piece of wood perhaps and 2 trebles on it.I wish my bro in law lived here in Wa State. What a great guy to fish with.I told him 6:00 pick up and he was ready. That was the start of a good day.Launch the boat beautifully. In a bout 10 mins.Motor started right up.I was in Valhalla (heaven).I caught nothing worth photographing unfortunately but it wasnt about the fish.It was just a great day on the water.Bottom line is I need to go out with someone with bassing knowledge till I learn better. My biggest problem was setting the hook to early or too late.I use the drop shot for perch all the time.I saw lots of peeps fishing but not too many friendly ones.Hehehe..Tomorrow is perch at my perch honey hole.I hope they are still there. Thanks guys for the input.Im really enjoying this bass fishing. My bro in law thinks its awesome that most guys release back.

It does seem that as folks get better at fishing and catch more, they release more as well. Like we mentioned in the honey holes thread, if I am a 'guest' on someone elses lake i definitely C&R. Aaron gave exposed me to a new lake and today I C&R'd my catches too. wouldn't dream of taking from someone elses 'regular' hive.

glad you had a good day- All my sunny days have been on sammamish, and crappy days are on lake wa way. I need to get on washington during a good day so I can start to enjoy that lake... I never have a good time there...
