Spiceing up a jig

Post by Trent Hale » Thu Jul 02, 2009 10:01 pm

I take new jigs out of the package and take finger nail pollish(Bon Bons) in green, silver and red glitter. Paint the jig head and hook , hook guard, rattles. This has great color and plenty of flash and works very well. The fish I have caught this year have been with spiceing the jigs. Has any one else tried this and has it worked for you as well ?

I just fish em out of the package and put on a trailer. Maybe I'm missing out on something? But one has to wonder, Trent...fingernail polish?? Hmmmmm LOL

I do like your idea, Trent. I may have to try that at some point. The most important thing is that modifications give an angler confidence. If you believe your modifications will get you more bites than chances are they will. I always put custom skirts on my flipping jigs and trim them to match the conditions. I could probably fish the stock skirts and get bites but I have more confidence in a skirt that is to my exact specifications. The only other modification I make to the actual jig itself is trimming the weedguard to my liking and adding rattles if I feel they are necessary.

Another thing I always wanted to try is adding some flash from my fly tying to the skirt of my jigs not a lot just enough to reflect some light....

To spice up my jigs I like to put a little Tabasco sauce on them.

Besides trimming the weedguard a bit and maybe adjusting the skirt, I usually fish jigs straight out da box. But I do like the nail polish idea.

I started with the nail polish when the paint was falling off the jig head. At first I just did the jig head and then I thought :-k how about the hook guard and the hook the more shine the better right. It works very good for me:thumleft: so now I paint the jigs right out of the package.:colors:
