A Big Round of Applause for..............Me

Post by Dustin07 » Tue Jun 16, 2009 9:40 am

Finally happened! A buddy of mine took me out to a known bass producing lake (although tiny lake) with bass, cats, and sunfish. We started casting spinners to see what would happen, and I caught this guy:

Image

As soon as I knew there were bass in there I started pulling out my smelly jelly and plastics and trying all the stuff you guys on these boards told me to do. Before I knew it, everything I read came true. There were times where I'd cast the line, set my reel right when the worm would hit the water, let it sink to take the slack out of the line, and as it was dropping I'd get the hit!

Image

I caught about 12 bass in a 1 1/2 hr period of time. Most of them were around the size of these guys, but I got one up to my rock that i was fishing from that was big enough to eat these guys EASY, I couldn't get him landed though. I was about 4FT off the water. Had I been on the shoreline I think I could have (the one that got away!) If I get a chance i'm going back this afternoon and I'll try to get a pic of a bigger one!

Thanks for your help guys. I have asked a lot of newbie questions and i'm stoked to finally have a pic of a bass with a plastic worm hanging out of his mouth, LOL... even if he is a dink! at least it wasn't accidental while chasing trout! This time I went bass fishing, and caught bass!

LOL I know they're dinks but I caughts them aiming for them! I've caught other smaller dinks before (believe it or not, they get smaller..........) but only when fishing for other stuff!

Big milestone for me! :P

A bass caught is a bass caught. Now you're picking up the tips, the patterns, and the methods of executing what you've read here.

They will get bigger. The bigger fish require more finesse and execution than these hungry little buggers, but once you're on the little ones the big ones aren't far behind.

Congrats, Dustin!

Excellent work! Producing fish like that, in large numbers, is definitely a sign of things to come. Like a green thumb to a gardener, you obviously have a knack for fishing. Good on ya for taking the spectrum of info here and applying it to catch fish!

I thought my wallet was already in trouble! You should the the collection of bass lures and gear I have already in my tackle. Constantly trying something new till I could get that first one, even if he was a dink!

even so, for little fish they fight like crazy. way more fun than chasing trout IMO.

I went back out last night and saw the big one again but couldn't get him. I will later!

In under a year I can't believe how much my bass gear has grown or better yet exploded in my garage. And I haven't even made the jump to a boat ... lol. Again great job out there Dustin ... looking forward in seeing you out on the water.

HaHa,..I have my own 15'X15' "Man-Room" I built in my basement just for all my Bassin-Gear and what not,..LOL,..my better half sends me down there when I'm in trouble #-o,..also my own seperate "Bassin-Acct" with my Credit Union,..so yes it does get a bit exspensive and very time consuming but well worth it!
