Building a boat out of wood is just an other part of the joy of fishing. I have built small boats in both wood and fiberglass.
I enjoy wood much more than fiberglass. If you decide to build a boat don't think you will save money over buying a ready
made one. It is hard to build a 12 foot john boat or pram in wood for less than what you can buy one for. A wood boat will
be much quieter on the water and depending on your skill and desire a wood boat will be prettier. Boats for flat water and
lakes are easy to build. Try not to get overwhelmed by all the different designs. Pick something simple.

Build it because you can.

Excellent link!

CWB is a fantastic spot even for non-builders, and the group can always use a donation to preserve the heritage of boats in our area. CWB singlehandedly kept the Lake Union Dreamboat from becoming extinct by helping people realize how amazing they are and the benefit of that style of boat over what we come to now believe is the norm. Long, lean wood boats burning 1/16th of the fuel of our current boats have heart, soul, efficiency, cost effectiveness, and beauty that can't be matched.

I especially like the family building classes. The sailers, rowers and kayaks and things they build are a great way to become aquainted with various building techniques. With the group buying power of the class, most would have a hard time building the boat for what the class costs, all materials included except paint. I built a pair of 16' rowing dories from plans they used in one of their classes (a friend taught the class). Both boats were used to row to Alaska after completion and then sold before flying back. Sad to say I wasn't able to make the trip because of work but I got to build the boats in the slow time of year, it was fun. I'll tell you what, rowing those boats will put a set of shoulders on a guy.
