I learned lots from this experience . First of all i learned that my needle nose plies cant cut my split rings (lesson) I also learned that removing the split ring when the hook is my finger is a kind of pain that i cant put into words(lesson) I also learned that always be sure to have braid line in your tackle , all ya need is a 12" stored somewhere at all time(lesson) I also learned that the painfull part of removing the hook is not the YANK. no no no my friends its all about the braid being pulled down inside the the finger untill it connects with the barb , now you reayd for the YANK!(Lesson) I also learned that the boater i was with didnt know how to do this , i luckily found the right guy in my club about 15 min after the hook went ..Yes this is a very painful procedure, however if some knows what there doing you can avoid going to the hospital and 30 min later i finished the day fishing our tourney (one band-aid) ..

plenty ! biggest one went 3.44..fish two days on roosevelt and 4 hours on potholes sunday .. Like i had the power of swede in me (tru passion)

i've been hooked many times, the worst came from a cranks treble hook. had no tools other than needle nose pliers. had to push the hook through and out..... cut the barb and the rest was easy..... almost passed out but hey the hook was out LOL

Wow. I have a high threshold for pain (broke my ankle in two places and still rode my bike home with kids in the buggy trailer - didn't know it was broken, or hoping it wasn't broken) but that just looks painful. At least you got into some fish.

LOL, had a similar event on Saturday myself. In my case, it went clear to the bone just beside my ring on the top of my hand, with the fish still attached.

The fish and I were in mutual bad ways when a last big flip by the fish yanked it out, with a sizable amount of flesh as well. (I should have bent the barbs down more then I did - LOL).

Note, I survived to keep fishing, the fish did not.

That's a lot better than the Get-drunk-and-yank-it-out-with-the-biggest-pair-of-pliers-you-can-find technique I was taught!

Its been a few years but Ive been there 2 times. I Iced the area for a few minutes and pushed the hook all the way through, once through my thumbnail. It didnt hurt too bad actually. Not looking forward to the next time, but it will happen :(

Ouch!!

After having a 4# smallmouth bury the second hook of my crankbait in my thumb as I attempted to land the fish I have gone to barbless hooks on all my plugs.

That was nearly 20 years ago and now when that inevitable happens removing the hook is easy. The surprising thing is that I think I land as many or more fish (include some pretty decent fish) on the barbless hooks as I did with the barbs.
