Rolland,

Were these photos taken this year?? and where?

yep. June 10th. they were taken in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie national forest in northwest whatcom county.

getting ready for bear season, quadradomus??? :jocolor:

No, bear season for me just means that maybe we might meet up in the same area. No gun poweder involved.
To me it's just cool to know/see that this stuff is out there.

Lena Lakes

Just south of Quilcene in the Olympic National Park.

It was a great day hike but I think next time I would like to camp to take it in a little more. It is beautiful up there but it's a hike. Plus I got to pack the kid all the way up. :pale:

Here is some info on the hike to the lakes from NWsource:
Trail description: Upper Lena Lake may possibly render hikers speechless with its beauty and open views. Meanwhile, the trail up to Lena Lake will certainly leave hikers breathless with its intense steep ascent and sections that require something more akin to scrambling than hiking. Lower Lena Lake is a much less strenuous excursion. Both lakes are great day hikes but also feature many campsites for overnight visits.

Lena Lake Trail climbs gently but steadily through three miles of shady forest to Lower Lena Lake. Dogs and mountain bikes are allowed up to this point, where numerous camps encircle the large lake. Upper Lena Lake Trail continues from the northeast corner of the lake and climbs strenuously for another three miles. This section features switchback after switchback as it ascends the steep valley. Be prepared for a rocky, narrow and brushy trip.

The upper lake sits among some of the Olympics' best parkland meadows. Mount Bretherton stands to the south while Mount Lena fills the northern horizon. The National Park Service maintains numerous campsites around the eastern and southern shores of the lake. Footpaths create weblike patterns into the lakeside meadows. Be careful of treading into revegetation plots, where the park is aiding regrowth of the very sensitive meadow ecosystem. Although Upper Lena Lake receives many visitors during the summer, it is worthy of all the attention it receives.

Swede,

I have shot a number of deer in the general area of photos 3, 4 and 5. Camped where photo 7 was taken from. No trout caught up that far...one needs to go two miles further down the trail.

If that's your camp location in the last photo I understand why our paths didn't cross. We usually camped down lower at the start of the meadows. Mostly our guys hunted the "golf course" which was up on the hillside behind our camp and all the way up in the basin heading over to Holden.

I shot 4 deer up there before the "bambi rules" ended. I got two spikes, a 2 point and a 5x6. After the 3 point or better rules I took a bow up, shot a doe in 1987 and that generally started the bow hunting up there. The next year our camp went 4 for 4 on the first day with two 3 points and two 4 points. Somewhere around then I started horn hunting and passed on the usual 2 1/2 year old deer. I did shoot another 5x6 in 1994.

The first 5x6 got packed out the equivalent of "field dressed". That was a terrible year and the one I learned the merits of boning deer out. If you ever heard of the guy who liked to take long shots up there, that was me.

We did get one Pope and Young mulie out of there in 1994. One of the youngsters took to bow hunting.

Killed lots of mice.

Nice pics. That one showing the rockslide,,, don't know if you made it over to the rockslide, but the angle of the slide continues within the lake. Straight drop off.
