Posting Pics???

Is there a max size for pics now? Tried to post a pic but was told it was to large. Advice on changing the size of pics would also be appreciated.

I think there are several ways to do it .... This is what I do:

I use a photo shareing service, in this case it is Photobucket.com since the price is right "free" There are many others out there that perhaps others can suggest.

You download photo's which are kept on their server. Their service allows you to easily edit the photo with options like "reduce image 50%" or "reduce image 75% ...." which makes it very simple to reduce the size of an image for posting on forums. You also have the option of reducing the photo down for use as an avatar.

I don't have any good musky photo's to show as an example "hoping to change that some time soon" but here is one I pulled from my photobucket account that started as a very large image, but was edited down.

mark i had the same problem, i can post them under the report but not in the forum.
craig he's actually talking about the kilobyte size not scale size.
i did notice that a photo i posted on a report dropped from 600+ kb down to 75kb when copied it back from WL.com. Not sure how its done?

Aaron has built code in to this site to auto reduce picture sizes without taking a major hit on quality. In the old days before high speed connection a photo that was over several hundred KB would cause big problems for web sites. Now everyone has 5 mb cameras and uploading those huge picture files can sometimes still cause problems. I don't know if there is a max photo size and Aaron's out of town for a few days. I'd recommend as mentioned some type of software which will "save for the web", i.e. reduce the file size for easier uploading and downloading. Also, consider that web sites incur expenses for two things: bandwidth and storage space. So when someone sends us a huge picture file it eats into our storage and costs bandwidth. Right now we are OK with both issues but I would expect in the next year or two we will have to move up to the next web hosting tier level. So reducing picture files helps the site as well.
