BASS LAKE near BLACK DIAMOND
Wondering also about BASS LAKE near BLACK DIAMOND. Last report was in 2007, and seemed like a decent lake to fish. If you see my previous post on BOW LAKE, I am new to Bass fishing, and I want to hit some lakes that I know are small and accessible with small boat/pontoon/float tube. This would help me be able to practice with presentation on lures and even flys (as I'd like to try fly fishinf for Bass soon). But it would be nice to find a "Confidence Builder" lake where I can catch them, and fairly easily, while practicing at the sametime. Bass lakes seems to fit, and I'm hoping, since I haven't heard recent reports that the fish are now bigger and possibly even more easily fished without having little to none fisherman who recently fished. Thanks for your help!

I live right by Bass Lake. It can be an excellent lake to fish for both largemouth and crappie. Fish Western Stiks (Senkos) and small spinnerbaits and you can load the boat, especially early in the year. Once summer gets here and the weeds grow up, switch to jigs, creature baits topwater frogs. I have only fished the lake maybe a dozen times, but have done pretty well on it. There are some very large fish in there from what I have heard, but my biggest out of there was just over 4 lbs. Good luck.

RE:BASS LAKE near BLACK DIAMOND
I have fished this little lake 41 times from 1976 through 1996 -- all trips from a canoe. I might add that my canoe was a stable fishing craft and I could even stand up in it while fishing -- not a recommended practice for a rookie canoeist. I caught many largemouth bass with the largest being a 21 incher that weighed 4 pounds, 9 ounces. That fish hit a black spinnerbait at the far end of the lake from the access. I have also caught many smaller bass up to about 2 pounds on top water Rapalas. Like WCCT says, it's a good lake to fish early in the year before it becomes very weedy. I don't fish the lake anymore because I live on the other side of the Sound but I do enjoy hearing new fishing reports. Keep 'em coming and good luck. BJ
A nice bass is too valuable a resource to enjoy catching only once.
