After watching Mikes video on winter smallie fishing Lake Washington..

Post by JT26 » Sat Feb 14, 2009 7:36 pm

I convinced my dad to take me to Sammamish either Monday or next weekend.
So, i think its safe to say fishing on Lake Sammamish wont be much different then fishing Lake Washington, right?

And after watching the video i have just a few questions..
1st, when using the rev rig, are you actually moving around, like trolling or just letting the crank sit and bouncing it? Cause it seemed kind of weird to me...
2nd, when using the rev rig, does it matter what type of cranks you use? Like floating, suspending, sinking, deep diving or what?
3rd, were the fish caught on the drop shot caught on the drop shot / lead head combo?
4rth, i couldnt really tell when they zoomed on the FF what type of structure they were fishing..so any advice? and i dont have a top of the line FF, i have one from about 1998 that is probably garbage compared to what is used today, so i wont be able to see it clearly like they saw.

Oh, Dez and Mike, that was a great video! It was so helpful, and i actually watched the full twenty minutes of it (first time ive ever watched a fishing video without skipping all through it.)

Thanks guys.

Hopefully you called Mark, but for the benefit of the group:

1) slow trolling, 40-50ft deep.

2) I think any kind except diving or sinking because you don't want the lure to dig into the bottom.

3) the bass were all caught on a traditional drop-shot rig, which we slowly moved along with the electric trolling motor. Mark and Dez had a tough day with the lead head combos. That's fishing - it could just as easily have been my day for a skunk.

4) hard bottom, under-water humps. Some areas were pretty small, others larger. Finding them is the trick!

Glad you liked the video, it was a fun, if cold, day.

I came in a lil late but I see something about a video.I would love to see an informative video on bass fishing if one is available.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Thanks for the kind words guys , I had a ball that day with Mark and Mike (top notch guys) ..Im not to bummed out about not getn a smallie that day , if anything mark and i had concerns about mike geting a fish (GO FIGURE) ..lol

Continue to look forward to more fun bassing videos , i think mike mention that we are going to try and get some footage of spring time bassing on washington since we already have one for lk sammy ..

The whole point of the video was to just show everyone all anglers on all levals that winter bassing can be just as fun as any other time of the year , and by the look of mikes face after landing that hawg says it all ..

Hmmm - should I be insulted? LOL :dj: I got skilz too.

I'm still laughing to myself about the third fish. For everyone: Dez was watching as the fish was biting and I think he figured I was taking too long for the hookset. He was definately - distressed? Anyway, I was on the fish the moment it started biting, just wanted a solid hook set.

Like I said in the video, just put the right rod and lure in my hand and I'll manage. :cheese:

I too had the problem of watching the video and it wanting me to log on. I just went str8 to the features tab, hit videos and then clicked the watch video for lake washington smallie.
Mike thanks for the great outtakes. They were hilarious and yes, I did take a beating from some of my friends for being the great trout guide. One guy actually sent me a doctored up photo of my boat with Mad Mark's trout guide service imposed on the side of the big Nitro.
JT, really it's safe to call me. I won't bite and I actually enjoy sharing info with guys and helping people become better fishermen. I will gladly answer questions, give insights, and tips to help.

Mike you know me well enough to know that i would never discount your bassing skill set .. YES YOU DO HAVE MAD SKILLS !!
And yes you did stress me out a little with that one hook set , but please understand that im always shooting for perfection while on the water . And yes i have been hearing about of trash talk from my buds "BigSqaw Dez " etc .. lol it's all good man , i luv it and if could do that day over again the only thing i would have done differently is bringing on other Dropshot pole that day .. other than that everyone kept smiles on there face and no one was tossed in the lake and yes im sure the eagles thanks us for it's dinner that we left behind ..lol

looking forward to spring time on wa wa and the WL.COM FAM !!

That was a helpful video. I'm kind of frustrated that I didnt consider the rev rig when trying to get my cranks deeper. Me and LowVW have had great success using the deep divers, and even got a 4.5 lb SMB in early November using it. But with this video, I think we will try the rev rig and go deeper. Also, I will start using the three sided swivels for my drop shot and rev rig. Its helpful for quick changes, that for sure.

Also, I noticed one of those kirkland points was one of our favorites! Shhhh dont tell anyone where! lol.

Thanks again for the great video
