I agree 100%, BB. When selecting colors for spinnerbaits I also like to factor in light penetration or sky conditions (sunny, overcast, early morning/late evening, night time) as well as forage (more applicable in clearer water).
agreed. i dont get as deep as changing colors during all different conditions but i will figure it out eventually. obviously you would want to change colors when changing from overcast to sunny. but what would you do different with colors when you compare early morning to late evening?

Hey tnj,

Generally, the early morning/late evening colors I use will be similar to those used in heavy overcast conditions due to similar light penetration. I was using those situations as examples of when I would factor sky conditions into my color selection. Talking spinnerbaits is giving me cabin fever.....

Difficult question to answer. The question I have is water type of water are you fishing most. Bigger lakes like Washington / Sammamish. Or the smaller car topper type lakes that dot the western side of the state. If I am fishing bigger lakes that have alot of deeper water I would learn crankbaits. The beauty of the crank is the multiple water columns / depths that can be worked. Think about it, topwater, jerkbaits, rattle traps, shallow divers, medium divers and then deep divers. That's alot of water that can be covered. They catch alot of fish and catch alot of BIG fish. Down side to a crank is the inability to fish heavy cover with them. If you are fishing alot of the little lakes that have alot of cover, then definitely the spinnerbait / chatterbait would be the thing to learn. I have really fallen in love with the chatterbait. I can get it into and out of place that no spinnerbait can go. It produces alot of fish because of that and gets the reaction bite just like the spinnerbait. As to colors, again its about water clarity. On Washington and Sammamish I like a white spinnerbait that has a little bit of blue or green strands mixed into the skirt. The blades choice is dependent of the weather and how much flash I want to throw. Also if I am fishing around boat docks, I want more flash because of the bait being thrown is shade most of the time. Hope this helps

It may have been a difficult question to answer but you did give a wealth of information with the answer given. Most of the lakes I have been hitting so far are the smaller lakes with a bit of cover so your advice does give me a dirrection to look. Thanks!

Hey Sean,

While the metabolism of the bass is much slower this time of year due to the cold water temperatures, they do not actually hibernate. They still feed during the winter, just less frequently. Bass are very catchable this time year. Many anglers catch nice bass while ice fishing during the winter in certain parts of the country.

For me personally, late March and early April offer the best fishing of the year.

Has anyone tried the Booyah Bi-You Buzz Buzzbaits? I have researched it and it looks to be a great lure and I want to buy one. I was just, wondering if anyone tried it in Washington.

Yo Rock,
Haven't tried the bi you, but I have fished the twin blade buzz baits before. The pluses to a twin blade is the bait runs straight and true, ( some single blade buzzbaits tend to lay over on their side a bit ). And it will run a whole lot slower. You can just turn over the reel handle and keep the bait up on top. This gives you the flexiblity of fishing fast and slow. The down side is they don't cast as well because of the extra aerodynamic drag caused by two blades. If your trying to sling that thing into any kind of wind, good luck.

I have used double bladed buzzbaits and have good success. They aren't as hard to cast as you think. Both the blades start turning and it flys itself sometimes. Get one or two Rocky, and have fun chucking them when it gets a bit warmer. Its one of my favorite ways to fish.

Both of mine ended up being used but yes they are Awesome reels! I got on the band wagon right after the reels were sold out at Cabelas. I had gotten the burner for me and my best friend is heading to Korea for a year so I picked up the 6.3 for him to hook into the bass while he is over there.
