Rufus Woods trout pellet fly
Rufus Woods trout pellet fly
My first ever attempt at fly tying. I used outdoorchris' recipe and got as close as I could with the color. There’s not a lot of color selection available in my area for chenille. I do have an order into Orvis; maybe I can get a little closer with the color.
Check out my first ever whip finish.
What do you think? Advice is always appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi ya Big D
First thought was, How'd you get my fly box LOL. a dead ringer for my attempts, also made some with more wraps hence chunkier.
Caught a few trout on mine, but the yellow perch fell in love with it down around pump #3.
Let us know how it goes

Hey Mr Sweede
Could ya expound on the tossing of the "kitty chow" (chumming), as there has to be more to it than chunkin handfuls of attractant in the water then planting your hook in there.
Years ago when I was a kid (i think), fly fishers would float some type food substance in the current of the White River (arkansas), and watch for trout to rise, then plan their strategy.
What say you
Thanks Man

Nope that simple and the brand matches the feed pretty close:-$ .
Your anchored up by the pens slap the water and let 3-4 power loads go in a filtered motion covering a feeding motion as they do in the pens= then make your cast in the same zone with a slower drop whatever your gifts are Fish on!!!
Chances it will be a chubby as well there Greedy:chef: :bounce: like me the Swede on the feed :colors:
The hardest part is the grocery store= Sir why are you opening all the Cat food bags???:colors:
Just making sure little Tuffy will enjoy her feed as much as my fish:chef:

Please forgive me; I must have taken to many stupid pills this morning. Your riddles are going right over this old man’s head. Don’t bother to explain. We’ll just leave it at that!swedefish4life1 wrote:Name the game will provide the process:cheers: and 2 guys and 2 gals equals what?

I think what Swede is saying is there were multiple anglers. Not that I have a degree in Swede-talk, mind you. :bball:

RE:Rufus Woods trout pellet fly
Wow,
It must be a slow day.
So...What do you think about the first fly that I ever tied?
Is it close enough in appearance to the pellets to work/catch fish?
Thanks!

Thanks blufin loui, swedefish4life1, Anyfish & stampie,
Being this is the first fly that I’ve ever tied it's kind of like the first dollar I earned. I'll have to save it for prosperity.
Give me some time and the flies might start to look like what I want them too.
It’s time to head back to Cabela's for some more fly tying paraphernalia.
Geez, my wife’s going to be pissed.
Anyone else have other comments or suggestions?
I’m listening.

RE:Rufus Woods trout pellet fly
Big D, to be honest with you, my first thoughts were that this looks just like a snail fly a friend from Boise ID had me tie. And to be equally honest, I would not use it anymore then I did with the snail flies. OK, maybe I would, but I'd never admit it. (LOL)Big D wrote:Thanks blufin loui, swedefish4life1, Anyfish & stampie,

If this is your first fly, think about the color of the body material when it gets wet. Usually the color darkens a bit when the body gets wet, so think a shade lighter then you want in the end.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

RE:Rufus Woods trout pellet fly
:-k I was just thinking you might try a small cork wrapped in brown yarn. You must have a weight on it to get it down, but it might work. also pepperoni or liquorice. I have seen liquorice shaped just like the fish food. Solid pellets, not the twisty ones. Years ago I used some foam from one of my wifes makeup applicators. It worked on local planter trout. I soaked it in smelly stuff. Someday someone will find a winner. Good Luck to all, Steve
Fly Fishing is the art of attaching a fake bug to a line and relying on the appropriate manipulation of the rod to deceive the fish into eating a sharp steel hook covered with feathers and fur.
