Fly Fishing is the art of attaching a fake bug to a line and relying on the appropriate manipulation of the rod to deceive the fish into eating a sharp steel hook covered with feathers and fur.

This one looks like a Palomino. A Golden/Rainbow cross.

square tail, orange fins. looks like some brook trout in that fish, possibly 100%.

My best guess is some kind of brooke, maybe with a brown.
Maybe a brookie on the "juice" :clown:

Okay, I'll fess up. It's an Apache Trout, ( http://www.cooperativeconservationameri ... sp?pid=136 ) Caught out of Hurricane Lake, on the White Mountain Apache Reservation, back in '93

The orange-ish fins come from the fact that this particular trout was getting her spawning colors on.

Well done. Did you get a less grainy picture you could e-mail me? I would love to have one for my records. I also caught an Apache Trout, but I was very young and did not get a picture.

In my day (~1965), you had to have an invite to fish for them; do they allow more open fishing in the White Mountains now?
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

The year I caught that fish, you were allowed to target them in only two lakes, Christmas Tree and Hurricane. It was by special permit, with selective regs and only a one fish limit. There was also a limited season, Memorial Day thru Labor day.

Now, however, I see that they've been stocked in several other lakes, including Sunrise Lake...which pricks up my interest a bit. Sunrise grows some very nice trout; the brookie in my avatar came out of there.
