I'm not sure. There's no mention of length in my fishing report (Merwin Lake, Cowlitz County, 9/17/2005). I don't remember measuring it, and I'm sure Mike wouldn't remember the measurements -- he was so excited he locked my keys in my truck and we were stuck at Speelyai until the tow truck showed up at 9 PM. Tony Welch submitted the photo via e-mail and probably guessed at the length. He wasn't with us that day. I'd say 50 inches tops, but I tell people it was 48 inches, because that's my vague recollection.
Regardless,its still a great catch. You can say 50,we don't mind.

I'd rather wait on saying a 50 incher has been caught until someone has one where it's not in doubt, as that seems to represent a milestone for many folks. As for it being a great catch, yes it was, and it's still the largest tiger muskie caught on an artificial lure in Washington and also the (unofficial) record for Merwin Lake. Mike is a gifted angler with an uncanny ability to read the water, and has caught the majority of the big fish taken in my boat. Two of his big fish were "first cast" fish. (I define a "big fish" as a tiger muskie that is at least 46 inches and 25 lbs.)
