Burning a spinnerbait

Yesterday fishing at Mason Lk I used a spinner and the only taker was on a burn. Tried the slow roll and the drop and jirk, just fast enough to stay on top of veg. But with the temps droping they wanted the burn. I haven't used a spinnerbait this late in the year but it worked! So do you guys out there use spinners in cold waters? Or was the fish I caught a fluke?

I think spinnerbaits are a good choice for cold water. My PB at King County's Bass Lake hit a black spinnerbait on March 14th, 1996 and as you know the water is still very cold in March in Western Washington. That fish was 21 inches and 4-9 -- kinda thin.

I have caught fish on spinnerbaits below what the water temp is this time of year. I'm guessing Mason was about 55 or so.

There was a time that I would use the spinner at any given time but this was in a different state and very different weather. In Panther Lk I used a black blade, black and blue spinner and caught many 4+ lbers. And West Lk up by Browns Creek we did very well with min wackers white and black&blue. When up at West Lk there was snow on the ground.

So last night we hit the water and the fish were killing the line as it hit the water. Not the lures we were offering just the line. They seemed to be swirling around everywhere. I didnt try spinner baits or buzz baits but maybe the next time out I need not to have such tunnel vision on what has worked in the past and try those. After reading this it may have been the ticket I needed to coax the fish in if I would have tried a spinner bait.

SpinnerBaits and Jerkbaits are the best two hard baits for this time of the year . LMB are back up shallow and feeding up on bait fish before winter sets in ..I would highly suggest focusing on the back end of any creeks .. Last year on Lk Samm. My last fish of 07 was on a spinnerbait , samething worked it over vegetation and had three hook up in like 10 min ...

I rarely through spinners this time of year but, the info that you that was provided I just might give it a try and see what happens any suggestions on what style of spinner to throw?

Tied on and ready 2 hit the water,..maybe Sunday/Monday,..gonna try a smaller body of water,..burned out on Lake Wa!!!!

Pretty soon Lake Washington will be your best bet. The smaller lakes will get colder sooner.

I have been fishing Long Lk and the water is colder there than in Mason. But in Long Lk they still like the Jig could be the water isn't as clear.
