Terrible story!
Hopefully this doesn't happen to anybody else but I want to get the story out so people know what could happen.
I know a guy that is hands down the nicest fishermen I have ever met. He volunteers at my work and is retired military!
Anyway, every year he plans a trip to columbia river for the irresistable smallmouth action. Well he was there last week and when he returned from a day of fishing someone had jacked up his trailer and stole his buddy bearings hubs and wheels.
So whats a man to do when he can't load his boat?
He calls a friend that owns a shop and is able to use his trailer but has to go get it. Sure enough when he gets back from a 10 minute drive the boat is vandalized locks are broke all gear is gone, finders ripped out, and trolling motor torn apart.
So hard earned money went to a nice 21 foot triton ruined by a couple of idiots. Estimated damages are up to $3000 and his insurance company hasn't got back to him yet!
I feel really bad for my friend and will be fishing with him for a little while. But I wanted everyone to hear the story and help keep an eye out for people like this. Please call authorites if something looks suspicious!

I'd set some "bait" out and sit back and watch to see who shows up. Put one person at each end of the street to write down vehicle description and tags. Put a little sting on their thieving asses.

RE:Terrible story!
Do you know where he was fishing on the Columbia? The reason I ask is because my dad's car just got broken into while he was out on the boat last week. They broke a back window, went through the glove compartment and left a mess. He had left his wallet in the glove compartment and it was stolen. When he called to cancel everything, they had already used his Cabela's visa at a gas station. He was walleye fishing below Paterson. There is a natural boat launch there and lots of people use it so they do not have to launch at Crow Butte or Plymouth. If your friend was fishing in that neck of the woods, then someone is working the area and we can get the sheriff to do a little patrollling.

RE:Terrible story!
I beleive he was fishing by the briggs bridge!
RE:Terrible story!
Some people, sounds like a total set up. I hope Karma hits them 100 fold.
RE:Terrible story!
It would be nice if the Deputy that took the report would consider putting out a decoy boat with gear inside at that site. My guess is it wouldn't take long for these crooks to strike again. I know satisfied thieves usually come back. Sad to hear this news. Just tonight I fished a lake the last two hours before dark. I was alone on the water which is fine because I am armed but I always worry a little about my vehicle and trailer back at the launch. Sorry to hear of your friend’s misfortune.

RE:Terrible story!
Too much thievery going on and mostly done by punks and drug users.Maybe if people were actually were punished it would discourage others from doing it.Between the crooked lawyers and judges on the take justice just isnt served anymore. Its amazing how a 357 mag can make someone think twice after they got a bullet in their face. The guy who smokes a joint gets 20 years but the guy who murders someone gets 2 years.Go figure.
My rant is because 2 years ago my Kicker was stolen off my boat along with gear just going to get my rig to retrieve it from the water.Everytime I go to a boat launch there are idiots with a lil Honda parked in a trailer spot.If you need the law you need to wait toill Krispy Kreme closes.

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

RE:Terrible story!
what a terrible thing to happen to someone. I was just at Mary Hill a couple weeks ago. Hard to imagine that busy place having something like that happen. BTW, the crooks aren't stupid people, they are evil people.

I guess some folks refuse to work for anything and would rather take it from somebody who dose, sickening.

RE:Terrible story!
Yeah, I agree with everyone about everything. My dad is 68 years old and goes fishing four times a week. Mon, Tues, Thursdays or Friday, and Sat. Been doing that forever. He goes by himself a lot but incidents like that make him think twice about going without a friend. If you carry a gun for self protection, that is probably smart, but someone always carry's one bigger or is not afraid to use it. Desperate people will do desperate things. It's a shame that a few evil stupid people will make you generalize, and feel you can not trust anyone.

RE:Terrible story!
It's a terrible for that 2 happen 2 anyone,..if you think about it though,..we hit the lake,..launch our boats,..lock our cars/rigs,..then we are gone for hours,..perfect set-up for thieves,..especially in the early morning hours,..I try really hard not 2 leave anything of value in plain sight,..even my GPS suction mount,..if a thief sees just the mount they might break a window just 2 dig around,..word 2 the wise,..clean your cars/rigs of all loose items,..clutter always seems 2 give them a reason 2 at least "look"! It's happened 2 me so I've learned the hard way!

Great idea Dave with a setup car.The problem with that is called entrapment ,I dont think they can prosecute if its a set up.The better setup is some guys getting together and then holding the guy for the deputy. If he happens to slip on the rocks and accidently bruise himself is another redeeming value.

Entrapment is when you tell them to break into the car. If they decide to break into it all on their own, it's a crime.racfish wrote:Great idea Dave with a setup car.The problem with that is called entrapment ,I dont think they can prosecute if its a set up.The better setup is some guys getting together and then holding the guy for the deputy. If he happens to slip on the rocks and accidently bruise himself is another redeeming value.

RE:Terrible story!
A little story from up north here in Snohomish County.......soooo, I've got no one to go fishin with, it's almost eighty degrees and don't already have my boat loaded and ready to go, so I grab two poles, gear and head to my bro's house who has a canoe and is four minutes from Bryant Lake (small mudhole that I've never really caught much over eight inches, plus it's usually nasty waist deep mud getting to, but aside from that) so I drag the canoe out there and when I get to the waters edge I see a john boat basically abondoned with what looked like cat-fishin bait all by itself. I move it a bit to the side, launch and go fish. A bit later, see three dudes near the boat, so I decided I better troll over that way and check it out, then one of them said it was "their uncles" and that he'd left it there last night with no way to get it home, so they came to pick it up for him....hmmm, odd story, but whatever, then one says, we caught mass crappie over on the way other side of the lake the day before, and I was like, whatever, I ain't caught nuthin but a tan and buzz all day and just kept on trollin. As soon as I get around the lake, I hear my truck alarm go off and BLAMMO, I'm paddlin like a mo'fo crack addict on his way to a free crack giveaway!!! I slam onto shore seconds later, charge my truck barefoot at full speed ready to lay the smack down with my paddle, but they'd gone. One of them must've been lookin out. Anyhow, they had popped the latch on my slider window, reached through opening the door and set off the alarm. When I got there, passenger door was open, glove was open as was rear window. Luckily I was quick enough that the radio face plate was still there, and nuttin was missin. Then, a few months later, some guys who live right near the lake told me their john boat was stolen...hmmmm coincidence? doubt it. My little brother's rig was also broken into at Lake Armstrong not five minutes from that location. Now, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing worth anything in my truck, I leave it dirty, everything is in plain sight so there's no reason to bust in and I also tie my slider shut, but that'll just end up costing my for glass repair I guess. Bass.tards better hope I never catch them gettin into my rig or anyone else's I tell you what....I heard they are great for feeding to the fish........not that I condone or advise vigilantism, gosh forbid justice be served up right then and there...with an oar, hehehhehe
