Water is down a bit, 5 inches seems about right. I can now loose lures on dock braces that were previously not visable...

I was out on Lake Coeur d'Alene yesterday and that lake had a ton of floating salad as well. I was wondering what had stirred it all up -- we had no big storms lately and with a lake that large (30 miles long) and this late in the season I didn't think that there was enough boat traffic to have chewed it all up.

One thing I'm seeing in common with Lake Tapps is a drawdown in the water level. In the case of Lake Cd'A, it's amost 12". This would bring the tops of the plants closer to the surface and reachable by a propeller, I guess. I don't know enough about the plants themselves to know if at certain times of the year or certain temps they just kind of "let go" and float to the surface?

It sure was tough fishing yesterday, I dont think I had a single cast come back weed-free.

I think its the fall turnover starting...weeds are dying. End of their cycle Cold nights and the water is drawing down a bit. Heard Tapps wasn't going to be lowered at all this year. But will say they are not filling it either..

Subject: Lake Drawdown
Owners,

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:
Annual drawdown of Lake Tapps’ water level to commence Nov. 1

Puget Sound Energy, in consultation with the Lake Tapps Community Council and Cascade Water Alliance, will begin dropping the water level of Lake Tapps on Nov. 1 as part of the reservoir’s annual wintertime drawdown. The community council urges lakeside residents to remove their boats before the drawdown starts to avoid water craft from becoming stranded on shallow, exposed inlets.
Under the collaborative drawdown plan, PSE intends to lower the reservoir’s water level by about five or six feet, and then consult with the community council and Cascade Water Alliance on whether to reduce the lake’s level even further. A key goal of the drawdown is to kill milfoil in the lake’s shallower areas by exposing the lake-bottom grass to freezing wintertime temperatures. The annual drawdown also is designed to ensure that waves from severe wintertime storms do not overtop the reservoir’s dikes.
Refilling of the reservoir is scheduled to commence by March 1, 2009, with the goal of returning the lake to its full, summer-recreation level by mid-April. Both weather and flood damage to the White River diversion dam near Buckley, if it occurs, can affect the length of time it takes to refill the reservoir.
The sale of PSE’s White River Hydroelectric Project assets, including Lake Tapps, to the Cascade Water Alliance is expected to close sometime early next year.

For current information on Lake Tapps water levels or to report boating, public-safety, or litter problems at the reservoir, please call the community council’s Lake Tapps Community Information Line at 253-891-5460.

You may also track the lake level yourself on http://waterdata.usgs.gov/wa/nwis/uv?site_no=12101000

Good job Kenster! Its about a foot and a half. Probably more by now. Funny thing though.Heard from the National Weather Service that they were predicting a winter with less rain. Oh well. Guess the homeowners will be able to fix their dock and retaining walls from all the wake boarding going on. Ah next year..think the muskies moved to Utah.

Lake Level Alert

New Posting - September 30, 2008:
Annual drawdown of Lake Tapps' water level to commence on or after Nov 1, 2008

The Lake Tapps Community Council has advised that the reservoir’s annual wintertime drawdown will commence on or after November 1, 2008.

Due to the low river levels and current governmental fish flow requirements NO WATER is currently being let into the lake. Under this condition the lake will be dropping approximately 3 inches per week due to evaporation and normal leakage. Monitor your areas closely between now and the start of the drawdown. Shallow areas may be affected earlier than November 1st.

The community council is urging lakeside residents to remove their watercraft before the drawdown starts to avoid watercraft from becoming stranded on shallow, exposed inlets.

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) will track the weather forecasts starting in November and drawn down to 537’ [5 foot drop – similar to last year] at that point in time PSE will take stock of whether the diversion dam is still WHOLE (intact) and what other factors we might then have to deal with. If all is properly in place PSE will drop it another 2 feet to 535’ around mid Jan thru Feb for maximum Milfoil freeze potential. (Milfoil is a nocuous weed in the lake)

The target refill date is April 15, 2009 in accordance with the provisions of the community agreement.

For current information on Lake Tapps water levels or to report boating, public-safety, or litter problems at the reservoir, call the community council’s Lake Tapps Community Information Line at 253-891-5460.

I wonder how this will affect the yearly water level changes on Tapps.

Regulators approve PSE sale

07:17 AM PST on Wednesday, December 31, 2008

Associated Press

OLYMPIA, Wash. - State regulators have approved the sale of Puget Sound Energy for $7.4 billion to a group of investors from Canada and Australia.

The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission said yesterday that the state's largest private utility can be sold to New York-based Puget Holdings LLC. While based in New York, the company is held by foreign investors.

The sale was supported by the commission's staff, Industrial Customers of Northwest Utilities, Northwest Industrial Gas Users, The Kroger Company, The Energy Project and Northwest Energy Coalition. It was opposed by the Public Counsel Section of the Attorney General's Office.

Again as of right now its NOT going to effect Lake Tapps. Think about all those homeowners out there. They really have the last say on anything and everything that goes on with this lake.
