dink lures
I've tried bassin this summer but for the life of me I cannot catch anything bigger than 12in
I figure if I cant catch the big ones I might as well try to catch more little ones. anybody have any favorites for smaller bass? or lures that you just can't keep the dinks off your line?

One easy way to get some bigger fish is upsize your lures. Sure you will still catch the dinks but your chances of getting bigger fish is better. Yes thats a very obvious answer, but, too many times I have seen people still use the same smaller sized lures, expecting to constantly catch bigger fish, yet wondering why they arent. Keep this in your mind, BIG FISH WANT BIG MEALS, its that simple.
Yes yes people catch some big fish on small senkos and cranks and what nots, but it isnt consistent. If you want to consistently catch bigger fish(but less fish mind you), look into bigger lures.

RE:dink lures
During Fall turnover, for largies I had good luck with larger bass using spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.

RE:dink lures
Alot of people are a bit intimidated when considering throwing BIGGER baits,..I know of some personally,..as for me I have always thought that Bigger Bait meant Bigger Fish,..it seemed 2 me 2 be common sense although I must admit I didn't throw the really BIG stuff right away,..I started with 4" and 5" Swimmies and worked my way up from there,..SONNN is definitely correct on the ratio of landed Bass but 2 me a PB Bass has more of a chance 2 tag your bait if it's BIGGER then it would if it was smaller,..my PB Bronzie was landed on a Swimbait! Be forwarned though,..Bass are agressive predators even the Dinks,..I've landed Bucketmouth Dinks almost the same size as my Swimbait!SONNN wrote:One easy way to get some bigger fish is upsize your lures. Sonnn I'm with you on swimbaits I was very skeptical at first but after I seen what they produce hands down throw swimbaits. It looks crazy throwing something that big but eventually they pay off and when they do it's amazing.

small bass love strike king mini kings. i like black/blue colored ones. most of the time you cant keep them of your line and every now and then you will get decent fish 2 to 3 lbs. they are my go to lure when fishing is slow.

RE:dink lures
Don't be intimidated by bait size, even for smallmouth bass.
These pics from an afternoon trip in early August are a prime example. I was testing out a new 8" swimbait I had just received and caught around 20 quality smallmouth in a short period of time. The swimbait matched the size of the kokanee the smallies were feeding on and was just what the doctor ordered.

Yep. You'll catch dinks all day on 3" senkos -- and lots of perch too.ChrisB wrote:Dink lure- 3 inch senko :bom:
Another one is the Yamamoto DT grub. I slayed the dinks @ cassidy throwing weightless DTs into the grass right along the shoreline. You can hop them on top of lily pads & the bass will smash it once it drops back into the water. Never caught anything bigger than about 3 lbs -- most were less than a pound...
Another fun lure if you just want to catch lots of fish is the good ol marabou jig. Bass, perch, crappie & bluegill love em. This year I even caught a catfish on a little 1/16 oz jig.
Best jig colors:
read head w/white body
red head w/chartreuse body
white head w/chartreuse+white body (red thread)

RE:dink lures
My best producing lure, hands down is a beetle spin, except I took off the beetle part and add a small jig to it, making it a spinner jig, but it's tiny and if you try using anything but two pound test, four max, it ain't gonna cast, but you will smash lots of little fish, includin crappie, perch, trout, bass, just about anything when put in the right spots. Great times on my smallest pole, with smallest reel and lightest line; even one pounders feel HUUUUGE, hahaha. love it.

Jointed rapalas, and original rapalas around dusk. I have been doing great with bass around 1lb or so, and big trout also with this bait. Throw it out. let the rings go away, and twitch it back to the boat. The bass will just gulp it up (seems they are cold/slow right now) but the trout will absolutley blast it! I have had trout leap three feet out of the air on this presentation...
