To dive or not to dive..
I just got back from fishing, my report is in the secret lakes section...But, if you see your rod going in the water being pulled by a fish, who out there - especially with the weather today- would go diving in after their rod?? I did, got soaked, ruined my phone..an hour later, I somehow rehooked my rod and landed the fish..just curious if I am an idiot for doing what I did????

Not stupid in my book unless it was a cheap rod from a garage sale or something. Still landing the fish is a bonus. And having a good ole fishing story for later is better. Hope you had insurance on the phone.

My gear isn't cheap...and no insurance. I am still kinda numb playing that whole thing out..because "my" fish story version, is the fish that pulled my rod in was at least 10 pounds..as soon as it loads, the picture is under secret lakes-

Good story. Glad you got the rod back, and even caught the fish ! The water is not that cold yet, I probably would have jumped in, and ruined my phone for sure while doing it.

I know- my honey knows someone who knows someone - cousin to this person- uncle to her....kinda not what you know, but who you know there..earlier before my even, I was reeling in about 14/15 inch trout and a huge bass from under the dock took a swipe at my trout..for a second I thought someone stole the otter from Offut Lake and put it in this one!! Nice fish in here!bassmasterderek wrote:Nice fish Jens! I know where your at though:-$jens wrote:My gear isn't cheap...and no insurance. I'd be diving, no question.
Great story jens. It's cool to hear you still caught the fish.

RE:To dive or not to dive..
I heard once (maybe from this site??) that you can open up your phone and put it in rice, the rice will soak up the moisture. Great story, and as my grandpa used to say "That'll learn ya"! Bet next time you are sure to secure your pole and/or open your bail!jens wrote:I am drying out my phone now, but not looking good..I know, I was sooo already spending in my head to replace what was "lost"-ChrisB wrote:Good story. I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

RE:To dive or not to dive..
I always - well not always now- leave my bail open..I had cast in a spot I knew or thought I knew there weren't going to be any fish..I had to make sure I was up to date with all the football scores. My phone was in my backpack- so digging around trying to find my phone is when my pole went for a swim...lessoned learned!

hey thanks BB- honestly, I was disappointed it wasnt bigger, but glad my gear was recovered..to me, the ones that get away are ALWAYS SOO BIG. this one did for about an hour- then when I got it in, was kinda small to what I had in my head.BassinBomber wrote:Nice Bucketmouth Jens,..! RE:To dive or not to dive..
in my opinion, it would depend on the rod a little bit, maybe if it was a cheap rod or something like that
i might not have. However, even if itwas a cheap rod now you will have an awesome story to tell all friends
,family or whoever for the rest of your life. The Day you lost and recaught yor rod!

You can never catch fish if your line isn't in the water - you don't know if you don't go
