That freshwater angler series is pretty informative, IMO. I know there is already a fishing books thread though....
I have caught many fish in my life. The most exciting? The next one.....

Thank you, I'll check it out. I have not seen that one before. I looked at it on Amazon. Is it worth buying?
Or is it basic stuff with a couple of good tidbits here and there. I have read a lot of bass and angling books, but not this one.

Thanks Basstradamus I appreciate that but I can usually find most books online for free or Amazon has it for under $3. If not the next time I'm at the library I'll see if they have it. I can't believe I've never read this before.

So has anyone modified their buzzbaits yet? How successful were they?

Truthfully, I have been following your thread, but not adding to it, for some time. I do not like all of the suggestions presented, but I have been modifying my Buzz Baits for many years.

I suggest that you keep some un-modified. Sometimes the more subtle approach is best. I suggest that the clicker be added to some baits, it can really make a big difference. I suggest that crimping the rivet to stop it from turning with the blade, and filing the rivet face rough to make the blade squeak like a little girl is a great idea, it also can make a huge difference. I have not found that the holes drilled in the blade seem to make all that much difference. I do often alter the cup in the blade to give me bigger bubbles in the water, but the holes just don't seem to mater.

The squeaking bait seems to be the best overall for me over the last 20 years, but the clicker is a close second. The un-modified bait is a distant third, but on some days, it is the only one that works. I have not had great success with having a bait squeak and click, but I still have a couple. I suggest painting a spot on your buzz blades to identify what you have done to them. For example, the clicker is pretty easy to see, but I put a black spot with a marker to show that I have made it a squeaker.

I don't like the flexible shaft. I don't know why, but it seems to not hook up fish as well as I like. Still, any buzz bait benefits from a stinger hook, other than perhaps Bill Dances extended wire version. Yes, I did try the Bill Dance extended buzz bait, just one so far, and it works well. Of course, bending the wire happens often and it could benefit from some of the other alterations suggested so far.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.
