CK I have a few of his chatterbaits - they are nicely made and have awesome action. Ive only tossed em a couple of times so I havnt really hooked into anything yet (plus I lost the perch pattern one to a snag already!](*,) )

What are the conditions to throw a chatterbait in?

any and all conditions. The colder the water the slower you need to fish it. You can even jig it if you want to fish them in winter. Basically the warmer the water the better they are as far as cast and retrieve. Right now try a slow roll type pattern with small jerks here and there.

danielt, have you ever caught a smallmouth on a chatterbait?
I have caught alot a LMB with them and they have amazing action. But I always wonder if the SMB would hit such a sporatic bait.
At first I was hesitant to even consider throwing what I thought was the next gimmic. (like the "flying lure) But now I don't hit the water without at least one on me.
