Hi Handyman, its common practice for those that are tournament fishing. You are right it is a public lake. This rule only applies to those participating in the Mayfield Open...hope this clears the fog a little bit. I am sure if you pm Deadeye he can assist you a whole lot more.....

Just a reminder concerning this event: The lake will be off limits to fishing/boating of any kind M-F of the week prior to the event. This keeps it fair for all participants.

VHM,
The lake is off limits to participants of the Muskies Inc, Chapter 57, NW Tiger Pac Mayfield Open Tiger Musky Tournament being held Sep 13 & 14th. The off limits period is M-R of the week prior to the event. The rest of the world can use it as they see fit. Having the lake 'off limits' to entrants of a tournament makes for a level playing field for the event.

I spoke with Cheryl at Mayfield Resort today and was informed that there are still available rooms in Aspen Lodge, Winston Cove and Johnson Terrace. If you don't have a reservation yet, I'd recommend doing it soon. Remember, you're going to get a 20% discount off winter rates which is fantastic for these accommodations. Check out http://www.lakemayfield.com/ Click on the accommodations, check out the season and off season rates and plan on 20% off - off season rates. Not bad huh!!!

Friday evening meal.
Just a note to everyone that just might get hungry Friday nite, the Lakehouse Restaurant(Mayfield Resort) will be open till 9pm and will be offering a 10% discount for participants of this event. Heck of a deal. It's nice to know you don't have to worry about supper on the way, you can get it at the resort when you arrive.

It looks like there's about 10 spots still open. I've got a few registration packets out there and they've been showing up in my mail box more and more lately.

Cash prizes will be awarded for the top 3 fish, plus this year we're offering a 'Double Option' that will offer some cash to the team or person registering a double during the event.

UPDATE;

Folks,
I apologize.
The Mayfield Open flyer lists the payout based on $2000,oo which is 80% payback.
The Mayfield Open rules list the payout being 1st place $1250, 2nd $750 and 3rd $500. This is based upon 100% payback. This event is an 80% payback tourney. The 20% covers printing, tourney expenses, the permit, the musky fishery and youth fishing programs in WA.
It should read: 1st $1000, 2nd $600, 3rd $400.

Deadeyemark wrote:There are still openings. If you're interested, PM me or email me w/your address and phone number and I'll mail you a registration packet.

For those of you on the fence on this one, I want you to know I put my best foot forward on this, the Muskies Inc, Chapter 57, NW Tiger Pac Mayfield Open Tiger Musky tournament. Mayfield Resort is offering a 20% discount off winter rates for lodging for contestants of this event. Food will be available in their new lakeside resturant Friday evening plus a buffet style dinner will be offered by Mayfield Resort for a minimal charge in the tournament room above the store during the entertainment on Sat evening. Oh yeah, there's entertainment: Jack Tipping(father of WA tiger muskies) is putting on a fantastic tiger musky presentation immediately following the meal on Sat evening. Bruce Bolding(WDFW and tourney judge) will be putting on his candid slide show of the contestants performing at their best throughout the day. This should prove to be a great wrap to the first day of competition. There will be more than $3000.00 in raffle prizes to give away to some lucky winners after the awards on Sunday. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 plus this year we're offering a 'Double Option' that will offer some cash to the team or person registering a double during the event.
You won't be disapointed, I'll guarantee it.
For those of you thinking you're not good enough - BS! This is not a high level competition event. I strive to run a non-competitive event that is based on fun and commaraderie. Sportsmanship is highly regarded in this event.

Just a heads up: A contest banner and orange waterski flag will be required besides a good quality net or cradle. Mayfield Resort will have orange waterski flags available. Hook cutters, jaw spreader and good needle nose are also highly recommended.

Also, this is a judge boat event. Cell phones will be used to call the tournament judge when a fish is caught so make sure you have your phone w/you for this.

Bring your camera, some luck and a positive atitude. This is going to prove to be Wa's premier musky event and I'm looking forward to being there.
Another friendly reminder
