michigan?

Post by big fish lite line » Tue Aug 05, 2008 8:08 pm

well I just got back from Michigan and am happy to say I caught a few fish. so we ended up staying at a cabin on the st. marys river for a few days and I started by looking for weedbeds and casting spoons spinners and rapalas for pike but I did not have much range because I was fishing out of a canoe. while casting a jointed rapala I caught my first smallmouth bass! a whopping 8inches! the next day I did some research and one of my distant relatives told me the walleye are really the thing to try for. I rigged a nightcrawler on a worm harness spinner and a 1 ounce bottom bouncer. I ended up letting the wind push me down current while trolling along bottom. I was rewarded with a tasty 18in walleye and another about 15 in. I also lost one that felt big and released a smaller one. overall it was a pretty good trip... I didnt catch any pike but I had a great time.

Nice job out there in Michigan. It's good to see an out of state report.
Glad you got into some fish big fish lite line. And a tasty meal as well. I love eating walleye.

Nice Wally! Those are great to eat. Where in Michigan were you? I'm from there I've never heard of the St. Marys River.
