Ideas for Smallmouth from pontoon at Potholes Reservoir
I am going to Potholes Reservoir tomorrow. I am buying a pontoon boat today and plan on hitting up the face of dam, starting at Mardon Resort to spillway. Have the smallmouth bug lately and looking for tips to catch some big ones. I hooked into something BIG 4th of July weekend on 3'' senko wacky style off shore. Any help is much appreciated and will be put to use and post to follow outing.

I have done well at Potholes using green pumpkin or watermelon tubes on a jig head slowly hopped along the rip rap at the dam. Also, a square lipped crank bait should do well if you use one that dives deep enough to hit the rocks. The bites often come after the crank hits something and abruptly changes action or direction. Good luck, and post a report when you get back.

Dropshot Sniper Snubs or WCCT Money Lure in Sand or Watermelon Pro Green , Yamamota Cut Tails in Watermelon and like Kevin K said a tube is always a good thing to have. It should be hot out there so get out early and fish the 5-15ft range for the smallies, fish points, humps and flats. Later in the day find some cover and fish the deeper coves. Find a weed line and fish the outside of it. Stay late and hit the top water bite up against the shoreline in the coves and flats when the sun is down and twilight is happening. Don't forget a spinnerbait as well. Have a colorado blade on and slow roll it. Hope you do well out there, look forward to seeing the report.

Pontoon fell through. Went to buy it after work and was sold. But I did catch some nice SM. Biggest was over 3lbs, caught w/wacky style 3'' senko off riprap in front of Mardon Resort. Caught several 2lbrs w/grubs and chart heads. Saw your pics with Bomber, nice fish!
