RE:To Many Dead Muskies
The most popular roe that I eat are from the Silver Mullet found in estuaries in the East coast area .the second is Pike.Over on our side of the coast Salmon Roe,Smelt roe ,Shad roe and Stugeon roe are the big yummy ones.I cant see why Muskie roe would be any different.Go to Zabars on line and check out the different roe thats being sold. There is way more to life then boring American food gents.

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.
RE:To Many Dead Muskies
I thought tigers were sterile fish that couldn't reproduce? How would there be roe?

There must be non sterile fish. How would they recreate others by genetic reproducing? come on now.....All species recreate....

RE:To Many Dead Muskies
I don't believe that being sterile necessarily precludes "one" from producing eggs (or sperm, as the case may be.) Isn't it true that Tigers can produce eggs, but they just won't be viable? Maybe I'm wrong on this...
Also, as someone said earlier, there are likely anglers out there that are not educated about Tigers and are searching for Roe, not realizing that the Tigers are, in fact, sterile.
Either way, they need to leave them Muskies alone!!!
PAD
P.S. The muskie and the pike procreate, to make Tigers. Tigers don't breed.

Perfect,I hope other anglers do the same.YellowBear wrote:We all seem to feel the same when it comes to poaching.
I guess that's a start.
I have the number on my phone (877) 933-9847 and if I see poaching going on I report it then and there.
I think the WDFW enforcement guys can use all the help they can get.

RE:To Many Dead Muskies
Poaching with the state is and will be very frustrating.I mainly fish the rivers.I see illegal nets alot of the times especially the Green in King County.I'll call the WDFW.They say call the WSP.I call the WSP.They are not interested and tell me it will be hours before anyone might check it out.So I call the WDFW back. They tell me it must be reported through the WSP.Its that way every year.No body will tell the Tribal netters a thing. No one person want to stir the caldron. And on and on and on.
So now I mreading up on Pikes and muskies trying to learn more about them.Does anyone know where to find a fish chart showing other species not from around here.Like the East coast or Canada?

Do an internet search for "Fish Identification" or "Fish Poster" Lots of stuff to be had. http://www.fishposters.com/racfish wrote:Poaching with the state is and will be very frustrating.I mainly fish the rivers.I see illegal nets alot of the times especially the Green in King County.I'll call the WDFW.They say call the WSP.I call the WSP.They are not interested and tell me it will be hours before anyone might check it out.So I call the WDFW back. They tell me it must be reported through the WSP.Its that way every year.No body will tell the Tribal netters a thing. No one person want to stir the caldron. And on and on and on.

RE:To Many Dead Muskies
Theres got to be a chart somewhere.
Most fish in Washington are non-native....pike,muskie,bass,most of the trout...even rainbows are non-native.
Infact, the only true native trout that I know without a doubt is the cutthroat and beardsley(only found in Lake Cresent)
There are other native fish but these are the ones off hand.

racfish - Try the Department of Natural Resources or www.lake-link.com/fish/. There's some good information with both of the resources.

P.S. Wisconsin has several sites in this regard; but I can't remember the name of any of them. An Internet search should bring some of them up. As suggested by RaMcVey.
Good Luck,

Rainbow trout/steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss) are native to Washington. In fact, there are two evolutionary groups, the coastal rainbow trout and the interior or redband trout of the Columbia Basin. As an FYI, the coastal rainbow trout occurs from Alaska to California, while the redband trout occurs from British Columbia to northern California.kevinb wrote:Theres got to be a chart somewhere.

There were rainbow trout strains that have been stocked in Washington that were not native to Washington. The most popular was the McCloud strain from California.

If you see a crime in progress the number to call is 911. A fishing or hunting violation is no different than any other crime. You will get the police with this number. They will either respond or pass the info along to the WDFW Enforcement.
Whether they respond or not, it goes on record since all 911 calls are recorded.

Yup, 911 for sure. I like the idea of photographing the boat but most "Fishing" cameras only have 3 or 4 X zoom and Im not taking the SLR out there and a face to face may not be the best idea, especially if i have the kids with me.

Rich & YB,
I just added that website to my favorites and put the phone number in my cell.
My cell has a 12x zoom but even with alot less, if it's real important, the cops can blow it up more yet to get the info they need. Take the pic and don't worry. Let the poachers do the worrying.
