Thanks kevinb, can't keep a good (wo)man down. I've been a bit under the weather :batman: ...but I'm back to talk about terrorizing those fish. Now, if I could only catch them!

I love fishing in Ontario! It's one of the most beautiful areas and the fish are incredible. So many fish tales from years past up there. Have you ever been up that way? Did you know there are over 250,000 lakes up there and it has at least 1/4 of all the (available) freshwater in the world. Vermillion Lake (or River) is another HOT :chef: spot.

Happy Hunting...:fish:

Do you know if Pine Beach Lodge and Andy Meyers Lodge on Eagle Lake have restrictions or slot limits on the size fish that the guest can keep? From looking at the websites I didn't see anything about catch and release and from the photo galleries of Pine Beach Lodge it looks like they allow guests to keep some decent to trophy sized pike. I hope they have some form of restrictions/slot limits for the size of fish guests can keep otherwise they will run into the same problem Minnesota had in the early 90's with a bunch of small fish with very little trophy sized fish.

Not sure on the pike but when it comes to muskies.I know almost all resort and lodges are C&R which is fine,I have no intentions on keeping a muskie. I wonder if pike are more abundant than muskies in the mid-west. It seems to be more politically correct to keep northerns. I even see in Muskie Magazine in the back section,"I like pike" now most of these fish are released but when it first came out.The author had stated he enjoyed northern pike fishing and a pike meal by a campfire. This isn't a *****-fit,just curious.

:nemo: Eagle Lake is one of the first lakes in Ontario to implement the "under 54 inch" catch-&-release rule. What this means is that nearly every Muskie caught over the past 15+ years has been released. There has been a marked increase in the Muskie population over the years. It has been said by government biologists in the area that the next world record Muskie may just be caught in Eagle Lake.

The limtes are based on the type of license you get. For a Sport License, you may have 1 Muskie in your possession. If you have a Conservation License, you can have zero in your possession. Additional restrictions are that Muskies MUST be 58 inches or greater because Eagle Lake has been designated as a top trophy Muskie lake.

As for Pike, there are also a great number of Pike in Eagle Lake. Again, the increased number of Trophy Northern is due to conservation. There is a slot limit in Northern Ontario for Pike. All Pike between 27.5 to 34.4 inches need to be released right away. Only one Pike over 34.4 can be kept. One of the more popular ways to memoralize the catch of a Trophy Pike is to take some pictures of it and let it go. Replica mounts, which are the exact replica of your fish can be made. As for Pike; if you have the Sport License, you can 4 in your possession; however zero of them can be between 27.5 and 35.4 inches and onlyone can be greater than 35.4 inches. With a Conservation License you can keep 2 Pike.

The Northern caught on Eagle are most commonly between 2 to 5 pounds. The weed beds and the backsides of the bays could easily yield between 20 and 40 fish in one day. The smaller Pike tend to stay in the back of bays. If you're searching for your Trophy Pike, concentrate on areas where the big Pike feed, like points leading into bay. You could find some getting into the 30 to 40 inch range, however there will be less of them showing up.

Hope this helps. The fishing in Northern Ontario is AWESOME! It's one of the greatest place to fish in North America.

Hope you get a chance to fish those beautiful waters.

Ah, my dad has done some guiding and LOTS of fishing in that area. He guides mostly in Wisconsin these days. My grandparents used to live in MN, so we did a lot of fishing there in the "old" days.

I love Ontario...for fishing and just being. :fish:

That it is...a mecca! Gotta watch your "ie" and your "y" there...make sure you chose the correct one based on the discussion! :geek: Ha!!

I can put you in touch with dear old dad if and when you're headed that way. I'm sure he knows a lot of contacts in MN and Ontario, too. (Not sure if he's guiding in those areas these days or not.)

Happy Angling! PAD :fish:

I would like to see some of the resorts that allow anglers to keep 1 bigger fish to increase their slot limit on pike (not all waters but some) so that north america came be a consistent competitor to Europe when it comes to world record pike!!

got home about 8:30 pm went to work got home about 1am got up and caught a flight to boise at 7:00am and just started typing just recently. I was going to try and post with a picture later this week when i get home. Fishing was alright. Water is a little warm but still I enjoyed it especially when the day was gorgoeus and there wasn't a damn jet skier, water skier or casual retarded boater try to buzz by doing 50 around. In fact I can honestly say I maybe saw 10-15 boats on the water all weekend. 85% of the time I was fishing all by myself without a boat in site.

You pay for 2/3 the gas and I'll put the wear and tear on my vehicle and boat and we'll hit the Pend Oreille! Or we could hit Newman, there are no photos on our Chapter 57 web site and I always like to be first at something!!
