Drop Shot, Carolina Rig or Texas Rig??

I have never really took the time to fish a drop shot rig, Tx rig or Carolina rig. I have been struggling as of late catching my bass in my usual spots. So I have been researching the rigs mentioned. The drop shot rig really interest me because you could fish a plastic lure/jig or a live night crawler and probably catch a variety of fish, correct?

My question or poll is which rig produces more action: Texas, Drop shot, or Carolina rig?

As far as bass fishing goes, I've had my best luck with a Texas rig... Then again it's the only one I really used until this last season. It's by far the easiest to tie onto your line and does the job fairly well. I did use the drop shot rig this year and ended up catching trout while using it! And never took the time to figure out the Carolina rig.

Topdawg , Man o Man if you fish for bass in LK washington and sammamish you need to get the DropShot down .. Unless you prefer to fish for Large Mouth (ill get back to that in a sec ) ... as for lk. wash and lk samm dropshot and jig produces the most bites .. Whenever your faced with deep clear waters (anywhere) dropshoting is a go to technique .. There has been a number of threads already posted on dropshoting so instead of going into detail i suggest just doing a search on key word dropshot (island bass put up a excellent starter thread last year)...

As for The green LMB , texas rigs and carolina rigging are some traditional ways to go about catching them , But the most important thing is to do is base your presentation on the lake you decide to fish .. wash & samm fish the same , however silver lk ,moses, potholes,banks etc fish much different these are LM lakes ..

I agree with BBD. Dropshots are the way to go, but don't be shy using carolina rigs either. If your fishing for largies in shallow water, need to use the texas rig.

My answer to your poll would be: the rig you use the most will produce the most action.
Each technique has it's time and place. And are all very effective.

Right now if I'm on Lk Wa I would be D-Shotn for smallies.
Throw me on a smaller body of water for LMB and I'd be T-Riggn' or Jign'.

I usually fish Lk. Washington 9 out of 10 times. Around the cut and behind husky stadium. I just started moving around to other areas on Lk Washington (I fish from shore a lot, one of these days I will snag a boat). Like Clarke Beach Park, Coulon Park, Seward Park, Log Boom Park on Bothell Way...

I normally only fish for bluegill, smallies, perch, lg mouth (if I can get them, Lg Mouths are a challenge for me on LK. WA-I've only caught one that was decent at Log Boom, the rest have been dinks). I only get out to East side of state on camping trips. Wish I got out there more, the best state of WA fishing resides on East side.

I've caught smallies through the cut where all the Grafitti is on the walls. I actually had my boat in there fishing while all the cabin cruisers and boats came by beside me. Its a chore keeping the boat straight and out of peoples way thats for sure. The majority of my rigging was on a drop shot. You can texas rig a bait and put it on a drop shot to keep it weedless. From what I've hear, the DS hasn't been working too well this year, and for me too. I would also try a shaky head worm perhaps, I have the gear to do so but can never get myself to try it. If there is weeds and lily pads, definetly try a texas rig, jig, or topwater frog even.
Just got back from Coulon walking the shore, caught 2 misquito bites. A few more weeks and the post spawn blues should be over.

i fished the cut a lot last year, only a couple of times this year. The thing about the cut is that there is a shelf because of the channel dredged out in the middle, so from shore that = snags. A c-rig, t-rig, and a dropshot will all work from there, but I usually t-rig there myself because of the snag situtation.
Try some spinnerbaits in there as well - ive hit a few fish in there on reaction baits as well as plastics.

trigs and crigs will work well around the weeds by the stadium but i would forget about the dropshot there.

Texas rig is better for the feel of the hits and you don't pull a pound of weeds with it. That all I ever use and always will. I have tryed the other way and just don't like the feel of it. Most of the lakes here are loaded with weeds so you need to fish the bottom fast and don't think your going to fast if they want the bait there going to get it.

Always wanted to fish the Graffiti walls for Smallies but was concerned about the traffic,..even though the speed limit is 7 knots it seems it would be a task in itself to stay steady in there,..!

You are exactly right browbomer-it is a task to fish in that area later in the day with all the boats and all. Sometimes you will get your line snapped by the boat motors, at least I have. The best time to hit that spot in my opinion is early morning & late evening.

Back to this question of Carolina Rig and Texas Rig... When I fish a Carolina Rig, how should it be used/fished? Should I just retrive it (simply reel in)?? Or does it depend on what plastic bait I'm using?

The same questions apply to the Texas Rig?

You can't go wrong carolina rigging a lizard, 4-6 inch, don't matter. For Crig, drag it a foot, then pause, drag it a foot then pause, or drag it slowly. Many in a boat will drag it slowly at a consitent speed for 100 yards or more if they know they are in a good area, so don't see a reason why it wouldn't work off shore reeling slow.
For texas rigging, you can use just about anything. Plastic worms being the most common, creature baits, tubes ( don't forget about a Crig tube either), lizards. For a Trig, cast to a target you think the bass would be on, let sink while watching your line. Start a lift and fall type retrieve, make sure to give a good pause in between. You can also drag it, or swim it over weedbeds. Let it fall when there's a hole in the weeds.

Drop-Shottin has been tough for me,..if I need to get down there I'll T-Rig,..mostly been catching Smallies on Rapalas,..I know the D-Shot is effective but I personally dont care for it,..alot of members use it and are productive but as for me it's T-Rig,..hey dawg,..if my 3rd dosen't show when we hit the Lake,..you have a seat on my boat,..although check with Skeetr cause his Bass-Boat is off the chain!

for deeper water Carolina and Drop Shot work awesome for Smallmouth.. The Carolina is great for Largemouth too... if you are fishing more straight down or on top of the fish a dropshot works great... if you are casting out and working it back to you a Carolina is great! I have caught tons of big Smallmouth on both of these rigs.... I have caught nice Largemouth on the Carolina too!
