Murky water/color and lure choice
I'm in need of a little help.Heres my situation....
I'm headed out to our lake property. Its a 55acre lake and maximum depth reaches 40ft.(mental picture if needed)
I was out here last week and the water was stained pretty bad, visibility couldn't have been more than 3 feet at best.
I've fished this lake for many years but have never seen the water like this. This lake has always had a little silt but in most spots with the exception of the middle, you could see the bottom on a clear day.
Now that I've bored you.
Any ideas as for lure color and lure choice?
Thanks fellas:salut:

Dark Colors for stained waters , Black with purple flake / Black and Blue / Black and red / etc ... Also keep in mind that in stained water situations , Vibrations from different lures is also a key factor .. Colorodo blade spinnerbait, wide wobble crankbaits, Big Worms 7" + etc ..
Also stained waters are know to keep bass in much shallower water than you typical clear water lakes ..Look for wood logs, stumps , overhangs etc ..
One last thing "BRING A FROG AND USE IT" ....
Report Back and let us know how things went .. BBD :king:

Tip of the 'ole hat to you Dez.
Frogs..eh! Sounds like a good enough reason to make a pit stop by Cabelas.
I'll certainly let you know how the outing went.Getting ready take off here in a few.
Thanks again

Black and chartreuse will work, too. The chartreuse will stand out in the murky water and give bass a second visual to key on, especially if it's a curly-tailed plastic. Stay away from natural colors (pumpkinseed, for example) and focus on darker colors for plastics and surface lures.
Also, anything that rattles or clicks will help bass key on the sound since visibility is so low.

Another think I have found is a long 7+ inch worm WITH A CHARTRUESE TAIL!! The black mixes in and then the tail makes it POP!

Thanks for the info guys.It was and is much appreciated.I did ok using a frog but took some time. I kept missing the hook set but finally started catching a few...dinks but fun none the less.Infact,I'd have to say thats my first top water bass ever.
We had a blast at the lake but had to leave way earlier than expected when I got some bad news of a friends death(fellow firefighter)

Thanks for the support BB
The frogs worked great. The water visibility has improved(a little) our lake is private as well.I'm not sure if its true or just stories but ran into many anglers out here.Sounds like many people are keeping the bass in here.Theirs rumors of an 8 pounder being pulled and kept. Not sure if thats true but heard this from several sources but then again, its a small lake and stories get altered and travel fast.
I had the most success with the frog in the evening.I tried it during the day but any hits.(well I missed)
I used a lipless crankbait and got a great follow,.....from a crappie half the size of the lure(tough guy)

I'm headed back out here this evening and got some more frogs.
I noticed in the evening just before sunset is when the bass seem to get more active(at least in this lake)
Gonna see if I can get my boy to catch his first bass.
Thanks for the tips...its much appreciated
