Lake Sammamish

So i am going to the picnic and am thinking about taking my 7 foot boat with my trolling motor and was wondering if the fishing was really any good around the boat launch in that cove for bass or perch.

Make sure your boat is registered or you'll get a ticket. It sucks big-time that registration is required for ANY vessel that has a motor (electric motors ARE included because it's a "federal" body of water).

oh really i was unaware of that hillbilly thanks yeah my boat is not registered due to i only fish beaver and pine lake so i dont think i will be able to take my boat.

I wasn't aware of that law, and not even sure its true. I used to (3 yrs ago) take my 9 foot plastic boat with a 3.3hp gas and electric to both Lake WA and Sammamish and never had a problem with anyone. Not sure about federal body of water rule, but usually any boat over 12 foot with something like a 10hp gas or bigger must be registered only,

FishingMachine, I wouldn't worry about it and take my chances ! Theres way too many wacko's in ski boats that the cops will be looking after if they are even in our area. The lily pads to the left of the launch and all the way up to the tree's and overhangs can be good. Theres a little drop off on that tree lined area too, might be good if they good deeper. Off to the right side of the launch there is scattered lily pads and some wood. I've caught a pair of 5 lbers to the right of the launch in those types of areas, both fish weren't on the same day, but theres fish to be had within 200 yards in either direction from the launch. GIVE IT A GO and see you there !! Show up early as I usually fish well past 11-noon when we come in for the BBQ.

Thanks Chris so i will go for it and are u talking about fishing near the picnic area or the boat launch area and yeah i will try and launch at the picnic area so i dont have to pay the fee but if not i will be at the launch so i hope to see u out there.

I'm talking about fishing right off of Sammamish state park, where the main boat launch is. I'm not sure about where the picnic area is. I'll see you out there regardless. BBQ should be a good time for all to share the days technique and hopefully some fish stories. Off to bed.

Yes i cant wait i have the rods rigged up and the boat in the truck all ready to go after some smallies.
Yeah i plan on fishing the shoreline all around the creek and such.

Fish the drop off at the front of the creek and in front of the northernmost swim beach (near the mouth of the creek). The fish tend to get spooked, however, as more boaters/skiers splash around during the day. Better to fish it early before those folks show up.

UNION/WA/SAMMAMISH - MUST have a boat registered regardless of motor and whatnot. I called and talked to them a few months ago about this.

I wonder if thats a new law. I never had a problem and took my 9 foot out probably 25 times on both lakes combined. Thanks for clearing it up BPM.

Yeah I was under the same understanding as you Chris,..less than I believe 14 foot and less than 10 HP no registration just your trailer,..I've heard of people putting cowlings on their motor that display a smaller HP just so they don't have to register their boat,..but that's only what "I've heard",..we need to get out to Smammamish together Chris,..then you can show me the ropes out there,..just got back from camping/fishing last night so It'll be a few days before I hit the water,..otherwise I'll hear it from the MRS.,...LOL,..hit me up Chris!

I dont think its new - just not well enforced or interpreted or something - hard to tell. It took me several emails and a few different phone calls to really nail down what was truly required.

Bomber - a lot of people seem to think the 14ft/10hp rule, but we fish out of a 14ft jon with only a 101 electric and they told us it had to be registered for sure...

to add to that

all the other lakes, if you are above 14ft and 10+ hp you must be registered - you must register on an annual basis
