Gone Fishin wrote:Well to add to this no signs topic.... Phil and I were out at Silver this morning and were commenting on there not being a sign up anywhere! If Silver doesn't have one I doubt Newman has one. The problem with this is that I went into Sportsman's Warehouse on my way up to the Pend Oreille River and there hangs a picture of a very proud man holding up his <40inch muskie.... In his driveway.... Victim of ignorance... So where the hell are the signs? Somebody needs to call somebody and find out or let me know who to call and I will find out or make some myself.

GF,
It would seem that the gentleman with the dead, kept musky is still guilty of poaching!!! Just because there was no sign at the boat launch does not mean that it's legal to keep fish smaller than the legal size.

When you're between speed limit signs, does that mean you can drive faster just because a sign isn't visible.

The law is the law even when no one is looking - Better yet: You are who you are when no one is looking! I heard this from a very wise person a few years ago. I like it.

Seems to me a picture is good proof of poaching a musky. Why don't ya take it down and post it on this forum under lake reports. Scan it. Email it to the WDFW also. If you ask me, an example needs to be made at some point. No better time than the present.
Whatcha think GF?

Some of them have hit a snag with the installation, it seems.
But WDFW is aware of our concern and they are working on it, that is what I was just told.
In the meantime, if I send you a couple of flyers the Chapter has made, could you post them in a few places.. not at the launches,
but at SPORTING GOOD stores?
They are not waterproof, so outside at a launch won't work, but it could sure help at the picture board in some of these stores.
I will gladly mail them to anyone who is reading this and wants to help get the word out, too.
Just PM me your address ( info kept confidential) and I will send them ASAP.
Just FYI, you can print (on your home printer) any of our flyers on waterproof paper that is available at REI or Joes Sporting Goods. It can be found near the topographic software and is meant to be used to print waterproof maps. You can write on it with a pen for about 5 minutes after printing, and amazingly, even the words that you wrote on the page become waterproof. They soak these maps in a jar of water as a sales demonstration and they look great after years of being submersed. The paper costs about $.20/sheet, a little expensive, but if we need to get a sign up somewhere, and the issue that it is not waterproof is holding us up, this is the answer! I have used this paper for maps for hiking, geocaching and mountain biking and have never had one go bad yet.

Hey Kenster, you could even print out waterproof mapquest directions to the upcoming Jack and Jill tournament at Mayfield!! Hope to see you and the little woman there!

Silver Lake DID have a sign up. It was in a poor location but now it appears to be missing. After checking on Silver I ran out to Newman, there is NO sign up. I saw that guy at Sportsman's W.H. holding his illegal fish up. It took the picture down and gave it to the customer service people and explained why it should be removed. That was last Friday, if it's up again I don't have any problem discussing it with the manager.
I'll call Randy at WFDW and see what he says about our East side signs. Please feel free to call to discuss any muskie topics. 509-714-8944, Scott

Hi RaMcWey: I can email one to you. I already have your home email.
And to anyone else who is reading this, if you PM me your email address.
(all info kept strictly confidential...I hate SPAM)

And THANK YOU ALL for the help in getting the word out. Because it is a brand new reg. this year and because folks just don't GET how long 50 inches is until they measure their BROOM, we need to use everything we can: Signs at lakes, flyers at sporting goods stores, and resorts, word of mouth, THIS forum (THANKS MIKE & AARON:colors: :colors: :colors:)

What a great bunch of anglers we have in the PNW. Solid gold.

There is a sign up at Silver but I did not see one at Newman the other day. How do we go about gettin WDFW to put the signs at Silver between the two concrete pads? Not back off at the edge of the bushes. It was up on the 4th when I was there. There is also a crappie size limit on Silver that I have seen violated on more than one occasion.

Muskie Guy I too pointed out to Sportsmans that it was a picture of an illegal fish, back when I first mentioned it in this post. If it was still up when you were in there, they obviously didn't remove it when I told them.

Was at Sportsman's in the valley 2 days ago and the musky pic was back up after Muskie guy gave it to customer service. I took it down and gave it to them again and explained that it was an illegal fish and it would be appreciated if they did not display the pic. I was very polite about it and she was really rude to me about it.

Gone Fishin: you did the right thing and THANK YOU for being polite. Does not matter that she wasn't; you stayed on higher ground and it doesn't do you (nor the muskies reputation) any good to jump into the ditch with her or anyone else.
I am proud of how you handled it. Who knows, could have been her brother's fish, #-o #-o . wah.

If it should turn up again, just call WDFW and tell them the repeat pattern and they will take care of it.
Or PM me if you'd rather and I'll call them.
This is a fringe fishery and we need allies, not folks who think we are arrogant or loud mouthed.

You done GREAT!!! WTG

Nice work GF

You handled the situation very well. I might have reached over the counter and pulled a Wayne Brady.
"Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a .....?'

Nice work:salut:
