brave bass

Post by crankbait42 » Tue Jul 08, 2008 6:17 pm

i went down to wilderness last weekend and initially was going for trout but as i was getting rigged up near shore a bass probably 4 lbs came out of nowhere. that changed my plans fast! luckily i brought bass lures so i started to look for more. not long after i saw 3 from 4 to 8 lbs and one huge one. i could not believe it. they werent even scared of me. i threw everything but they would only look. finally i was getting mad so i left to go for trout again. on my way back to trout fishing three went along side the boat! no joke 3 were swimming along with me and not scared at all. well i could not take it so i put on night crawlers and was able to hook into 2 of the biggest bass of my life after quite a bit of looking but i had no scale and no tape measure but i would say one was 6 and the other 8? i got pictures of the bigger one but i dont know how to put them on here if i figure it out i will. but i was also alone so it is just a picture on the seat of my boat. btw all were released. oh yeah the bass is also my avitar and the battery above it is 11 inches long and the seat is 11 inches wide.

I had sort of a similar thing happen to me on Pine Lake about five years ago when I was trout fishing out of the boat. Two good sized largemouths were just swimming around the boat in shallow water so I rigged up the bass rod with one thing after another and could not get them to take. I finally tossed on a bobber and a whole nightcrawler and hooked into one of them which ended up being a nice 4 lb'er. As I remember it was mid late June or early July. I am no bass expert so I really don't know what the fish were up to exactly. Cruising around for an easy meal in the warm water mabey?

I was at Black Lake on Sunday and met a bass doing a similar thing by my boat. My story ends on an empty note as I couldn't get him interested in my gear. i did return yesterday to try again (it was a good size) and didn't see it but the wind was blowing and it was harder to see into the water. as far as I could tell, no one came to see my boat that day.

Anyone else seeing this behavior??

I see it all the time at the lakes down in San Diego. I fish for trout with my grandpa at these small lakes and there are always huge bass leisurely cruising the shore and hanging around near the docks. But same story, lockjaw. You could put a drop a 10 inch nightcrawler on it's own (not even on a hook) in front of it and it wouldn't touch it cause they are very wary of anything "human" or anything that has human interaction

I can imagine all they touch are the stocker trout out there....Big swimbait scene at these lakes to coax these 5+lbers into bighting....

I don't know about you . . but when i look down in the water and see a large fish hanging out under the boat the LAST thing I think about is reaching for a camera . . I become a wild mis-caster - -i'm usually shakin' so bad the picture would be a blurred picture of reflected surface light at best. Probably not goin' to see pics from me :geek:

set up a free photobucket account and you can move them there. just click the IMG link under your ohoto that you have loaded on photobucket and voila! Just paste the link along with your text and there you go. Hope that helps.

P.S.- I've heard of Bass from wilderness, but have yet to see proof of any.

i posted a report on lake wilderness and there are pics there. that was pretty easy to get pictures in a report the forum pictures should be set up the same way i think.
