Got a new boat! What do you think?

Post by SnohoBassGuy » Sat Jul 05, 2008 12:38 pm

I just bought my first boat! Unless you count my float tube :-&

It is a 1975 Camplite fiberglass boat, with a 2004 EZ Loader trailer, and a 4HP Johnson. I picked it for $600. Now I just need a gas tank, and I'm on my way.

I believe this was a good deal, but never buying before, I'm not sure. What do you all think?

This ought to broaden my fishing abilities. I will be on the larger lakes soon!

Yahhoooo!

Hey man, that boat is sick for Bass fishing. I have seen boats like that in the sound with 2hp motors! Think about it with your boat you can go in the shallows without disturbing bass on beds and you can into thick sloughs without hitting bottom. Every boat has a chance to catch fish!--Good Luck

that looks like a sweet little boat to me....$600 seems pretty good, i mean that trailer has to be $400+ off the showroom floor (mine is a shorelander and it was $450). nice and light to pull (easier on fuel). what is it....10'?? oh, and that 4hp Johnson, nice motor. one piece of advice...get a motor lock for that baby if it sits outside....that's how i lost my 4hp. now bring on the fish!!

That's a good deal. The trailer looks to be in top condition, and that's usually where you get hit buying a used boat - decent boat but the trailer is trashed. You got a steal here :) Boat looks very solid and will get you into some great places to fish.

Score!

Can you run a gas and electric combo on that boat?? The boat looks pretty narrow, may not be too stable but for one person you shouldn't have a problem. I agree that trailer is worth at least half what you paid. Good luck, do you know for sure the 4 hp runs ?? Just wondering as it didn't come with a gas tank. Good luck out there, C&R.

Trailer is probably worth $450 or so. I do think it is a great deal, regardless if the motor runs or not....

It will be a tight squeeze trying to get a trolling motor next to the gas motor, but I dont have a trolling motor right now, so I will worry about that later. The boat is wider than most 12' aluminum boats I have been in, so I think three people max would work fine.

I do need the gas tank still, but in the meantime I am borrowing a friends. I had him change the plugs in the motor and look it over. The components are very clean. We set up a barrel and started the motor up. It runs great, and starts instantly when the cord is pulled. I'm gonna try to get it on Lake Washington on Thursday. The lake is new to me... anyone know good places to launch and fish?

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Great boat to get ya where ya need to be. Nice pickup SnohoBassGuy.
Try Coulon Launch near Renton. You won't have to go far to pick up a good smallie bite.

You don't need to worry about running a trolling motor (next ) to the gas motor. That 4 hp gas will be so light, you only need to clamp it on, and take it on/off depending what kind of fishing your doing, put the trolling on when trout fishing.

A trolling motor definitely comes in handy while bass fishing -- especially if the wind is blowing... :-k

Yeah, we ended up not fishing it, due to the choppy waters that day. We will be back to fish on it again soon.

Does not look bad at all for $600. I would float in it. You will definetly increase your catches and be able to access various spots.

Hey snoho,..you have any electronics on your rig yet? Fishfinder w/Transom mount or Troller mount Transducer would help you tremendously,..more HP too,..I have both,..let me know if you're interested! Eagle FF and Honda 4Stroke 8HP.
