Anglingarcher,
We used to catch what we called Hellgramites out of the reeds in Silver lake.
They were a dark brown or black and were about an inch to a inch and a half long.
The last time I had stopped in to see a buddy there in Medical lake, he had a bucket full in his shop.
Some had morphed and he had them big ole Dragon flies buzzing the shop.
Clear lake had good numbers of them but Silver and North Silver is were we caught most of them.
Marshell creek had them as well, between the town of Marshell and the cemetary.

When I was a pup, you could buy them anywere.
I haven,t seen Hellgramites for sale for some time now.

YellowBear, things are pretty clear now. Hellgramites are Dobson Flies, Dragon Flies are there own thing. But.................

Dragon fly larve/nympth make super bait as well. I just prefer to use flies to immitate them (LOL).

I still think there are Hellgies someware around here, I keep hoping to hear about them.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

Cachmorebluegill, did we help you at all?

It looks like you can find dragon fly nymph larva from yellowbear's directions.

I have found Caddis (rock cylinders) in the Spokane River, but I'd stay way way way away from there right now. I suspect that they are in the Little Spokane as well. Keep in mind that the Caddis cases are often found in shallow water seasonally, but can be found in deep water all year round.

I have not had the time to look for scuds, but if you know of a weedy, cold, spring, look there.

Maybe this link will help. I used to use them on North Silver in Spokane Co. back in the 70's, when Butler's Boat House was still there. They worked better than anything else.

Or maybe this link?

Where you go is less important than how you get there.

So there we have it, Joe has confirmed that they do exist in Eastern Washington. OK Joe, when are we going to try to catch some helgies at North Silver? (LOL)
