Weightless.....Fish em slow. Let em sink, twitch em, let em sink, repeat. Watch your line for movement. Sometime you wont feel anything, just see your line move left/right...

Do some searches on the search function. Lots of good stuff from previous threads...

Cast them out, let them sink on a slack line. When you see your line taking off, as in its not going away from you slowly anymore instead quickly, its about time to set the hook. Bass love senko's, one of the easiest ways to catch a bass. Learn to skip them under docks, your catch rate will go up 300%.

Those are great tips -- and they work!

One of the cool things about senkos is that they are slightly tail-heavy. When you give them a little slack line and allow them to sink, they glide away from you rather than forward or straight down. Bass can't resist!

I have not had much luck during springtime when bass are relatively inactive. Senkos seem to be most effective when the water is nice and warm (late July - August).

Alright fellas,I'm not proud to ask but I love bass fishing but only do well with(sometimes do well)cranks and spinnerbaits. I rarely use plastics do to lack of knowledge about them. I hear people talking about rigging them Carolina and Texas...my problem is I don't know what that is. Sorry,I should know this but my time is spent to much on the muskies but I have a serious bass itch. Damn those guys are addictive...

Most of the fish I catch on senkos bite before the senko hits the bottom. They tend to hold on to them to because of the flavor. Like the others said, a slack line is the key. when the line is slack the senko will fall horizontally with a slight wobble and if there is a bass neaby they cant resist it. Last monday I saw a bass swimming away from where I casted my senko then sure enough without feeling the fish I saw my slack line go with it so I set the hook and the fish was on. I lost the fish right at the boat.

Hey Kevin, when you hurry and get over here for some absolutely killer pike action I will show you how to catch big Pend Oreille river bass on senkos too! I have caught about a dozen bass 17-18 inches (3-4lbs) in my last 3 pike fishing trips just because every now and then I flip a senko to certain cover.

As far as the wacky rig, I did have fish take it but I ended up loosing senkos fast! Little blue gill would grab an end of it and it just ripped the hook out. Especially if I set the hook on a moving line and it turned out to be a bluegill or small bass, never saw that senko again. I only tried it one day and decided that I could still catch them rigging it normal and I saved senkos that way. Maybe someone else has tips on that.

These are some good tips. Just a side note: PLEASE be responsible when fishing Senkos, particularly weightless. Fish will almost always swallow these baits if given the opportunity. I recommend fishing them on a semi slack line (with a slight bow) so the Senko can achieve its optimum fall, but you are able to detect light strikes much better than fishing them on a slack line. This will help prevent gut hooking bass and the delayed mortality of our favorite game fish.

Another thing worth mentioning in regards to the Senko….Over the past several years I have seen the Senko become a “crutch bait” for a lot of anglers. They are effective under a variety of conditions and VERY easy to fish. They offer the same level of difficulty as throwing a nightcrawler with a bobber. That's not a negative thing. Whether the fish are actively feeding, neutral or negative, they always seem to catch some bass. The problem I see is when people fall into what I call the “Senko Trap”. Anglers that rely so heavily on the Senko for the majority of their fishing often miss the opportunity to load the boat with big fish under certain conditions. You don’t want to miss out on a good jig, topwater, swimbait or reaction bite while soaking a Senko all day. These aforementioned lures will typically catch larger fish and give you the ability to cover water so much faster. When the fish are not willing to chase or react, that is when the Senko really excels. They are a great tool and fish catcher but don’t let them become a crutch.

Has anyone hooked them tail 1st? Last month I was w/o my tacklebox and Senko was TORE up from fish. Hooked tail 1st and got some good action. Works with bigger(4+), smaller 3's are about symetrical. Try it sometime!

I don't fish senko's much anymore, but they did get me into my first 50 bass or so. I will fish them from time to time if nothing else is working or the bass are very lethargic. Besides texas and wacky rigging, I have caught many large bass fishing them like a fluke or jerkbait, quick twitch twitch then let it rest for a flutter for a second. It looks just like an injured baitfish. Senko's are very versatile, but they do become a crutch if they are the only bait you have confidence in, especially if its windy and you do have any line control. My favorite colors were always natural/no flake, green/white laminate, and black/blue laminate.

Great info guys. I may have to get some for my daughter (9) to use to get her hooked. I bought a few for myself last week to give them a shot as I have never used 'em. Would have been nice for some of those slllooooooowwww days I have had the past few weeks.
