Pine Lake (king Co.) Trout Sores

Hi All,

I put in a call to the WDFW and ask about the sores that are on the Trout in Pine lake. They didn't have any immediate answers for me but they said they would check it out and get back to me. I've never run into so many fish with this kind of problem. The person I called said it could be from the the tubes they used to shoot out the fish but I told her that I didn't think so since the sores don't look like they come from any cut. I also added that dead fish are showing up in the southern end of the lake (from Kutt's comment on Pine). Just want to make sure there aren't any health risks for anyone.

I'll keep you posted and will add a pic of the sores for reference.

If anyone has additional information, please add it.

If you have any pictures, that would greatly help. Deer Lake (island County) has a lot of problems with fish with sores/lesions on the fish as well. I've yet to figure out what they are, but have a feeling they could be the same type of problems over there in Pine Lake..

At least some of the dead floating fish are probably due to the idiots catching and releasing dozens of fish while using power bait.

Sad but true. When using powerbait,the fish caught should be targeted as a meal unless you can get an early hook set.
I see tons of dead 'bows on local lakes from this method. Maybe their should be a test given prior to receiving a fishing license.

yeah although i had good luck this weekend with 16 of my 18 fish not having sores

Good thread here. Ok my buddy and myself caught over 75 trout on flies in Pine in about a weeks time. About 50 of these fish (out of 75) had the sores. Next time I go to the lake I'll take pictures and post them up here. Something is seriously wrong cause it's just not me noticing this problem, it's many other anglers as well. The sores are now starting to grow huge and killing off many fish in the back cove. We saw at least 10 dead down there -- I guess more food for the bass, but in all seriousness this is not good in the slightest form. I would caution anyone in eating these fish and would like to say that about 70-80% of my fish have this problem. I'm avoiding Pine Lake the rest of the summer and will be on Beaver, Langlois, Margaret, and Rattlesnake instead throwing little nymphs and streamers. It's really sad to see. Thanks for starting this thread bro because someone needs to look into this and NOW. Anyone who goes out there please post pictures of these fish with the growths/red gooey sores...they effect mostly the upper back and dorsal fin.

More like crawdad bait for all those Louisiana Craws...I'ma try and pulll a few of those this summer outta Pine with some traps..

I spoke with a gal at WDFW today. She said they had a lot of calls about concerns with the fish at Pine Lake. Well, someone actually brought them in one and tests were run supposedly. She said that there is no danger in eating them and they are healthy. She didn't offer what it was, but said there is nothing to be concerned about. The phone number is 800-833-6388.

Yep I hear you there. Unless I am starving to death those fish are going back into the lake
