Kayak Point

Post by kavykid2k6 » Sun Apr 20, 2008 5:39 pm

i myself dont have a boat so i am stuck fishin from piers and beaches, just wonderin if anyone has been to kayak point recently, i love fishin for flounder and last year this place was a hot spot for some biggins!

i used small hook with crappie tubes(geen/white. red/white, glow) on a two foot leader. set it up like a drift rig. i would tip it with a little chunk of shiner perch and it worked awsome, and for some reason the tubes keep the bull heads off.

i started fishin around june and it was hot then, one after another. any one know what time of the year the fishin get hot around there?

My favorite to fish Kayak Pt and other piers in Puget Sound is usually around April-June for sea perch.

Kayak is one of the better places for perch. Except they have that stupid $5 parking fee (might be up to $10 by now).

wait a minute here...

Is KTK referring to fishing for ling cod from a kayak? Or fishing for ling cod from a kayak at Kayak Point?

Kayak Point does not seem like ling territory to me. No rock structure--just mud/sand bottoms. I've caught salmon, perch, flounder, cod, pollock, bullhead, and shiner perch from there. Never seen anyone catch a ling or rockfish or other bottomfish associated with rocky structure.

It was (the TV program) about fishing lingcod from a kayak in the San Juans. Not fishing Kayak Pt. I just posted it as quick as I could in a thread with the word "KAYAK" in its title so it would get out quick. It was on KCTS Channel 9 in Seattle. It was pretty darn sweet but only lasted 10 minutes. Kayak Pt. is not necessarily a good lingcod area, so save yourself some time and don't fish for lings here as it's sandy and a bit rocky at best and absolutely no good reefs are around for the lings to hide in...it was NOT about fishing Kayak Pt. for a kayak. It was about fishing from a kayak period. Hope that clears it up! That's not to say a rogue lingcod couldn't be caught here...but it's not a place I'd fish.

where exactly is Kayak point? I would love to be able to go to a dock and catch some flounder like we used to be able to do here in Tacoma. when I was growing up my dad and i used to go to Les Davis, Point Defiance, or that dock off teh Nisqually basin(used to be able to get some rally big flounder there) and be able to catch a bucketfull of them. Or if anyone knows of any place closer that would be appreciated too

Kayak Pt is north of the Tulalip Reservation, near Marysville. About 1.5 hours from Tacoma. Probably too far for you.

But check out this link from the WDFW site for additional spots that may be closer to you.
